Thunder give Spurs the Opening Night Belt: Let’s do some word association after what we just watched: Shai: Somehow even BETTER. He can’t actually three peat an MVP in the modern era…right? There was a different look in his eye tonight. Dub: “We are finally HEALTHY.” Chet: Everyone wanted to see Chet be more aggressive against Wemby, but I think that’s the wrong word. The right word is ACTIVE. Chet was active on every play tonight. Making things difficult on Wemby all night, never giving up on a play. Came into this game with a hungry mindset and it showed. Mara: Not sure how anything the rest of this season will top the Shai spinning floater, Mara block on Chet lob, and Mara oop sequence. Also he’s kinda cocky which I love. I’m not sure a “Wemby Stopper” exists, he will have better games… but a “Wemby BOTHERER” does exist, and his name is Aday Mara. McCain: Huge momentum saving career high 6 threes! CONFIDENCE is the obvious word. Caruso: Every little play that you need to win a game. Every closeout, every loose ball, every board. All out INTENSITY. Also made both threes he took! JWill: The ENFORCER. Self explanatory. Kenny Hustle: He only played seven minutes?! It felt like more! Very IMPACTFUL. Made his only three he took. And was +6 in those 7 mins. Caso, Ajay, Hart: All three will have better nights, but all three made what felt like big plays at the time in the 4th quarter. Hart was in foul trouble all night, but had a big block and a dagger floater. Ajay and Caso were out of rhythm offensively…but Caso had a huge steal, and Ajay led the team in assists. So their word is FINISHERS. Again…1 of 82… But there’s a different aura about this team this year. They are out for blood.
