Was trying to figure out why I wasn't properly parsing the lightmaps correctly on this wall in the Depths, then realized that it's actually broken in game. nice work lol
Managed to reverse engineer the Dark Souls water shader. They use a deferred target for a water heightmap and construct the displacement normal based on that. Fun stuff.

In the case of the grate, the alpha map is referenced by the blend map. Materials have up to 3 layers, so the first blend map should be the 7th texture reference.
@JasperRLZ Ah, it's simple. Select a value "a". Texels greater than "a" pass, texels less than a are blocked. Adjust a to select the length of the beam!

@JasperRLZ They were very popular! Lots of variants used in games from the PS3/XB360 era. Unreal used a variation with 3 luminosity values and one color. But in general I think L1 SH is nicer to work with and worth storing the additional coefficient.
@JasperRLZ Wish I could say "hey, JSR is solved, here's my code and/or docs!", but while my experimentation with the PC version has resulted in *something*, it's extremely hacky, broken, etc... Unless someone's already got that game covered, I'll probably keep trying some more.
