Getting Beyond Selfish Prayers by J.C. Ryle Let us take heed that we pray for others also. Let us beware of selfish prayers – the prayers which are wholly taken up with our own affairs, and in which there is no place for other souls beside our own. Let us name all whom we love before God continually. Let us pray for all – the worst, the hardest, and the most unbelieving. Let us continue praying for them year after year, in spite of their continued unbelief. God’s time of mercy may be a distant one. Our eyes may not see an answer to our intercession. The answer may not come for ten, fifteen, or twenty years. It may not come until we have exchanged prayer for praise, and are far away from this world. But while we live, let us pray for others. The greatest kindness we can do to anyone is to speak for them to our Lord Jesus Christ. The day of judgment will show that one of the greatest links in drawing some souls to God, has been the intercessory prayer of friends.

You will not stop the itch of sin by scratching it, you will only increase it. At some point you simply have to learn to die to yourself and say; "I'll learn to be content with what I have."

Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance, the only thing it cannot be is moderately important. —C.S. Lewis

I can't recommend highly enough two Bible-disciplines. (1) Read-pray thro all the psalms every 30 days using the BCP Psalter schedule--morning and evening. (2) Read the OT once and the NT twice every year using the M'Cheyne reading calendar. Life changing esp over the yrs.

Read the Bible daily. Make it part of your everyday business to read and meditate on some portion of God's Word. Gather your manna fresh every morning. Do not scramble over and hurry your reading. Give your Bible the best, and not the worst, part of your time. -@jcryle

What’s worse than not getting the one thing we want in life is getting that one thing and realizing we still aren’t satisfied.

Ever since Eden, Satan has been slandering God, telling us that we cannot trust our Father and His generous provision.

Prayer is arguably the most objective measurement of dependence on God. The things you pray about are the things you trust God to handle. The things you neglect to pray about are the things you trust you can handle on your own. —@hbcharlesjr
