For context: at the beginning of 2021, installed battery capacity in California was a rounding error. Now it's cranking out the equivalent power output as six nuclear reactors when grid operators and markets call. That happened fast (and a lot more to come!)

@JesseJenkins Six 1GW nuclear reactors will deliver 144GWh of energy every day. Is that how much battery capacity California has installed? If not, please stop lying and learn the difference between power and energy: cjshaver.com/bl0406/
@JesseJenkins Batteries don't make power.
@JesseJenkins For 2.5 hours. Ridiculous to contrast to reliable, stable power source like nuclear. Renewables should be addition to the power mix for the future, but they are not yet ready for widespread deployment. The biggest barrier to their acceptance is the dishonesty of their advocates.

Similar development in Battery storage volume in Germany since 2019 May 2019: 1.1 GWh/0.7 GW April 2024: 13.1 GWh/6.9 GW Since they are mostly distributed RTPV paired units, one doesn't directly see their impact in grid stats, although, it might explain some of the demand reduction visible in Germany? @JesseJenkins It’ll be interesting to see what happens when they are marginal price setters. In ERCOT they avoid market mitigation by claiming their proprietary algorithm estimates their marginal costs (suuuuure).
@JesseJenkins Power output is irrelevant. Energy output is relevant. If you don't know the difference - fat chance.
@JesseJenkins Do you think there's enough lithium out there for the whole of America to do this, nevermind the whole world?
