I love @AlistairBegg, his ministry, his preaching, and his writing. And I wish I could teach & preach the way he does. • Do I agree with his take in recent days? No. • Will I rebuke an elder harshly? No. • Will I slander a brother? No. I’ll STILL take Begg over the multitude of evangelicals that fill many pulpits today.
Let me be, extremely, clear: I think Begg was & is incorrect in the counsel he gave. In fact, I think it can inadvertently affirm unchristian behavior or validate enemies of the cross. However, I still regard him as a brother, and a good pastor, who has aided me in my own faith from afar.
@Jlove__ @AlistairBegg One of the most important aspects of Begg's response is the idea that we need to wrestle with these very difficult tensions.
@Jlove__ @AlistairBegg So do we go to any non believers weddings. How far do we take it and still be like Jesus? I believe it's easy for Believers to take a stand because it's based on homosexuality but non believers, or ppl remarriages are we taking the same stand.
@Jlove__ @AlistairBegg Really though, what is the difference between him and someone like Beth Moore? They both believe you can attend a gay wedding and that women can be pastors.
@Jlove__ @AlistairBegg So, we're slandering by saying Alistaire gave wicked counsel? No, dude....that's the truth.
His advice was his to give a grandma that seeked out his advice. Would he offer the same advice to you or me? Maybe not.. he is discerning and practiced that in this case. This was never about how we should all respond to a similar situation.. this advice was for that grandma in that case and it was AB's to offer.. not mine, not yours, not even to any of us.. can we say he was wrong? How can we!? We were not in that moment and might have offered similar advice if we were.. furthermore, compassion over legal: should win every time..
