$10/day child care is here in this province in just 2 years - saving families about $6,300/yr per child. We know child care needs to be more than affordable, it also has to be available - thats why the province is training more ECEs and increasing wages.
@Joanne_NL Good luck finding that day care centre....
@Joanne_NL Unfortunately there is a 2-3 year waiting period for daycare spots. You can make it free if people can’t get their kids in daycare it’s still no advantage.
@Joanne_NL After school programs cost 5k plus ( 1 child ) a year if new parents are wondering what happens after daycare. Good luck searching in the meantime, I heard there are a number of shortages in various sectors.
@Joanne_NL @karinagould As a Burlington resident I can’t get a spot in daycare let alone the centres that have opted in for the $10/day ..heck even $20/day . I truly appreciate what our federal government is doing & the importance being placed on childcare .. but we are a long way off right now.
@Joanne_NL Accessibility has been a major issue since the cost was decreased for all families. Currently on multiple waitlists for regulated care and have been told a spot might not come up before the child reaches school age.
