I talked @CMLewisGeorgeW4 about her push to have a full-time librarian in every DCPS school. She said "libraries are essential for addressing the vast literacy gap" during the pandemic. (@wusa9)

Eight-year-old Jayceon Gregg Hall goes to Aiton Elementary in Northeast DC. He says his school has a library... but no librarian. He says it's unfair some kids in the DC get resources that others do not. (@wusa9) @CMLewisGeorgeW4
DCPS told me it’s committed to providing “a robust learning environment for all students”, including access to literacy resource. It says its principals actually budgeted more for librarians in FY22, on net, than in FY21. (@wusa9)
I want to correct something re: Jayceon's statement. Aiton *DOES* have a part-time librarian. @luvinthelibrary reached out to me this morning. This error is on me. When I went to verify Jayceon's claim, I mixed up the info below. I would never want to take away from her work.
@JohnHenryWUSA @wusa9 @CMLewisGeorgeW4 This has been corrected to say that this student’s school has a librarian, but many schools do not! A good message regardless… it’s about equity!
