Claude's sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 are so much more competitive and efficient than OpenAI's latest release that a usage reset, market avoidance of watermarking, and increased token efficiency have been rendered completely ineffective.
@OpenAI , on a defining day, released a marginally acceptable upgrade from Sol 6.0 but cut the limits in half, resulting in a net negative overall. Anthropics' Sonnet 5.5 is arguable better than OpenAI's top model Astra, meaning the third-place value model from Claude is simply more effective for most tasks, or at the very least highly comparable. For the first time in an OpenDev day for OpenAI, they are clearly behind and it's not even close. I have struggled to find a use case for them outside of fringe Blender applications and supporting development. For OpenAI to get back ahead, it will require the release of something unforeseeable and truly shocking, and they are on the clock.
