I think the most detrimental change to us over the past 20 years is that social media and partisan cable news have transformed us from generally curious people to generally furious people. Everyone thinks they’re an expert now and can’t wait to yell at you about it.
Like, how about we all sit, watch what’s happening, let the experts who have trained their entire adult lives for moments like these handle things in the immediate, and not resort to immediately pretending like we’re all experts and yelling at each other.
@JonHansenTalks That pretty much sums it up. The issue is the curious part forgets about making sure anything might be remitely factual.
@JonHansenTalks Very insightful. We have so much more access to information. Which is great! But we can’t seem respect each other’s opinions.
@JonHansenTalks And people have to be right. Actually, it's not enough for someone to be right. The other person needs to be wrong. So wrong that they must make everyone aware in a shaming way that the other person was wrong. Even if that other person was actually correct.
