It’s easy to be blinded by what Sid, Geno, Bryan Rust and Ned are doing these days. But don’t forget about the two rookie defensemen. Jack St. Ivany and Ryan Shea have been thrown into the fire, and they’re thriving together. Here’s their story: theathletic.com/5411318/2024/0…
@JoshYohe_PGH I’ve really enjoyed watching St. Ivany over these last few games!
@JoshYohe_PGH Yes these two have been absolute ROCKS back there. Shea is just sold, and St. Ivany looks like a star in the making. As slow as D-men are supposed to develop, it's super encouraging to see the level they're already playing in the NHL.
@JoshYohe_PGH And let’s not overlook how well POJ has stepped up when paired with Letang. 🍁🏒🇨🇦
@JoshYohe_PGH The problem w/dealing Ruhwedel is that they didn’t have any Ruhwedels. St. Ivany fills that role well, is younger & more physical. Shea must have realized he better bring more to the team after sitting in the box most of the season. Although it took injury to force Sully’s hand.
@JoshYohe_PGH They have been terrific. No questions asked.
@JoshYohe_PGH Jack had been a real bright spot and may make some of his lesser functioning colleagues expendable
@JoshYohe_PGH Reminds of when Rust Sheary all those younger huys were brought up from WB in the cup years This has been missing Lack of draft picks to stock the farm along with FA signings have hurt the organization
@JoshYohe_PGH I definitely like the two back there. Unfortunately when age returns, the youth don't play. Part of that is on the HC and part on FO that brings in the age.
@JoshYohe_PGH Would never think you’d be more confident with your rookie third pairing not allowing a goal in crucial moments but here we are.
