Much of my vacation mimicked a cat life. I spent time with people who love me and fed me. I didn't have to do anything and I took a nap whenever I wanted.

The bridal tent's chirping irked Else as she passed it's beaded entry. 15 gathered preparing for the festival. 2 would marry after a year engagement, the rest would wave ribbons at hopeful grooms. Else tugged her curious sister along. They had carvings to trade.

Elders believed it a powerful gift to know by first glance the brightness of someone's light or if darkness had swallowed their soul. Watching her sister's terror, Else despised their use of her with strangers, and yet, without warning, their whole tribe could be lost.
