this is amazing I wonder how “I could make this move" is being differentiated from "I want to make this move"

@Jmih_01 The language around the technology is sensationalized. It takes functional intent, which means he actually attempts to move his hand for this to work. Because he’s paralyzed, the signal never makes it to his hand but it can be transmitted to the computer to make the move.
@KBK_811 1. does the rely on the actor’s having performed the same action before? if someone is paralyzed from birth, would it still work?
@Jmih_01 In theory, I would think it should work as long as the birth injury/defect is downstream of the implant’s location. So at birth, you may have lost the ability to actually move but you didn’t lose the ability to “want to move”.
@KBK_811 makes sense, I’ll find more to read on this(or if you have any pointers). Thank you Kabuki!
@Jmih_01 Lol I don’t have any pointers and I’m not even sure that this is right so take it with a pinch of salt. A person more experienced with motor cortex will know better. My responses are all “hypothetical”
