TROPICAL STORM ISAIAS UPDATE
11 AM WEDNESDAY 10/7/2026
Isaias formed early this morning and will likely become a hurricane tonight or tomorrow before making landfall Friday night along the northern Gulf Coast. As it approaches land, it’s expected to weaken while growing in size.
With Isaias passing well to our west, we will NOT see damaging winds or destructive storm surge. The tornado risk is very low, but not zero. Our main impacts will be rain, breezy winds and minor coastal flooding. Here’s what to expect:
🌧️RAIN: Timing remains the biggest question. Some models bring rain in Saturday morning, while others hold off until Saturday night. Right now, a few morning showers seem possible, with rain increasing through the afternoon and becoming widespread and occasionally heavy Saturday night into Sunday.
Rainfall totals of 1–3 inches are expected, with the highest amounts near the coast. At this point, I don’t expect rain-related flooding to be a concern. PLEASE check back for timing updates. If you have outdoor plans this weekend, I wouldn’t cancel them just yet, but I would certainly have a Plan B ready.
🌬️ WIND: High pressure off the New England coast and Isaias well to our west will bring east winds Saturday, turning south Sunday. Gusts could reach 25–30 mph, especially near the coast.
🌪️TORNADO: On the east side of a tropical system, a brief tornado can’t be completely ruled out. For now, that risk looks very low, with any potential mainly on Sunday.
🌊 COAST: We’re not expecting destructive storm surge. However, the new moon and onshore winds will push already high king tides above normal. Expect minor coastal flooding for a few hours on either side of high tide through Sunday. The surf will be rough as well.
