Within drug-using communities, people who sell drugs often act as de-facto community leaders, keeping up with everyone and checking in on people who no one has seen in a while. In my drug journalism, I've been told countless positive stories about local drug sellers.

@KatieElatey @MyHarmReduction Sounds all a bit too much Robin Hood for me. I‘m not doubting such people exist, but except for the „we make the world a better place, Weed, LSD & Ecstasy give a way for free“ Jesuses they do it for a reason. cartels don’t build highways for charity, but a Favor: silentness.
@KatieElatey When i was active, i asked people for drugs. Some obliged but of course charged me for the drugs. So perhaps they were "dealers" but most were just regular people. Many cared. Many encouraged me to stop. Are liquor store and bar owners all "bad"? Of course not!!!
@KatieElatey When I went to rehab (in 80s) my dealer called to see how I was doing. Staff told me he called cuz he wanted to entice me back, $. I bought that for yrs. No he truly cared for my well-being. While I gained some good in rehab, this is #327 lie I was told/believed f/it.☹️
@KatieElatey @kyrsten_sw Yes!!! Thank you for sharing this!!
