Power and energy guy, now working out the grid constraints behind AI infrastructure. India and SEA. Charts and primary sources. Personal views. Noida, IndiaJoined July 2026
What most people don't know: when you fill up a petrol car most of the energy never moves it.
Petrol car: 13–21% of the crude oil's energy reaches wheels.
Electric car on today's UK grid: 43–45%.
Electric car on wind+solar: 77–80%.
Impressive work for a YT short.
We’re still very early in imagining just how much GenAI will change the learning process.

Global battery demand hit 1TWh by the end of July. That took 12 months in 2023, 11 in 2024, 9 in 2025. This year, 7.
Grid storage is up 28% even as Chinese demand fell 6%. China's share: 60% in 2025, 37% now. The rest of the world is catching up.
When you start a chess game, you have 20 possible moves available. After the first full move (White then Black), there are already over 400 possible positions. By the third move, that number jumps to around 8,900, and after the fourth it reaches nearly 200,000.
By the time you get to move #40, the total number of possible games explodes to roughly 10⁴⁰, a number comparable to the total number of atoms in the observable universe.
India's 🇮🇳 rise as a top renewable power is simply astonishing - a key to Viksit Bharat!
Clean power capacity overtook fossil fuels in India last year and is now nearly 50 gigawatt ahead.
The crossover occurred in June 2025, when non-fossil sources edged ahead with 50% of installed capacity. India reached that milestone more than five years ahead of the country's 2030 target.
By the end of July 2026, non-fossil capacity had reached 300 gigawatt compared with roughly 252 gigawatt of fossil capacity.
In the 12 months to March 2026, India's fossil capacity increased by just 2 gigawatt compared to a 55 gigawatt increase in non-fossil capacity, of which 45 gigawatt was solar.
India is now the second largest solar market and the third largest renewable power.
The ambition of prime Minister Modi and the people of India is Viksit Bharat - a developed India by 2047. More clean energy is key to that goal!
Thanks Gavin Mooney
For the first time ever, clean energy capacity in India has taken the top spot. That’s a 12x expansion over 25 years.
Everyone’s talking about the environmental side of this shift, & that is big, of course, but I think the real story here is grid sovereignty.
Scaling renewables at this pace moves energy away from being a volatile, imported commodity & turns it into a domestic advantage.
When 1.4 billion people pivot their base energy capacity toward clean power, it completely redefines energy security.
Huge milestone for India’s power landscape, & an even bigger blueprint for the rest of the world.
Solar in India is scaling faster than anyone expected.
But the more interesting bit is what happens AFTER you build it.
Can the grid absorb, move and use all that power when and where it is needed?
That part looks less glamorous than solar panels but matters just as much.
Everyone thinks EV adoption ends when people stop buying ICE cars.
It doesn't.
That's when the infrastructure starts disappearing.
In Norway, battery EVs now account for around 99% of new car sales, while roughly 40% of the passenger car fleet is fully electric. The country still has around 1,700 fuel stations, so drivers are not yet broadly struggling to find petrol, but the network is already beginning to contract. Since 2020, 430 petrol stations have closed as fuel demand has continued to fall.
This is the next phase of disruption. Fewer litres sold make marginal stations uneconomic. Closures initially remove low-volume or redundant sites, but as the ICE fleet keeps shrinking, maintaining a dense nationwide fuel network becomes progressively harder to justify.
That is when the transition becomes self-reinforcing. First ICE loses market share. Then it loses infrastructure. Eventually it loses convenience. Longer detours, fewer stations, less competition and higher operating costs all make holding onto an ICE vehicle less attractive.
Norway is not yet at the point where petrol is difficult to find. It is showing us how that point begins.
Norway isn't just electrifying cars. It is quietly dismantling the ecosystem that supported internal combustion for the last century.
This is what an S-curve looks like after the tipping point.
SWB (Solar, Wind and Batteries) is destined to become one of the defining concepts of the 21st century.
#SWB isn't just an energy system. It's the foundation of a Type I civilisation on the Kardashev Scale, where humanity increasingly powers itself from the continuous energy flows of its own planet rather than finite fuels buried beneath it.
Cheap solar. Cheap wind. Cheap batteries. Together they create abundant electricity, electrify transport and industry, reduce pollution, strengthen energy security, and unlock prosperity on a scale we've never seen before.
This isn't simply an energy transition. It's a civilisational transition. ⚡🌍 #Bettrification
Global BESS is going vertical. 🔋⚡
H1 2026:
🔋 461.3 GWh deployed, +71% YoY
⚡ Grid BESS: 347 GWh, +69%
🏠 Residential: +128%
🌍 56.1% deployed outside China
And despite all the political theatre around the energy transition, the numbers keep moving in one direction: North America +83%, Europe +74%, Rest of World +119%.
At this pace we're approaching a 1 TWh annualised run rate.
Edge BESS could be the next S-curve: rooftop solar, EVs, data centres, rising power prices and increasingly constrained grids are all converging.
Politics can slow the transition. Economics keeps pushing it forward. 🔋📈 #SWB#Bettrification
British wind power generated more than gas for EVERY MONTH in the last twelve months - the first time this has ever happened.
Wind power produced over 30% of British power every month, cementing its position as Britain’s leading electricity source 🌪️

@brahma_4u @sajithpai India is growing and growing fast. We need to upgrade not only our production but our grid as well. Imagine the demand when this number rises to 40/50/60% as it should looking at our weather. Opportunities galore!
We haven’t seen atmospheric CO2 levels consistently this high in 14 MILLION years.
We’re in so so SO much trouble, & pretty much every politician & journalist has just decided to ignore it.
No time to wait. #ActOnClimate#climate#energy

@ProfStrachan Consumer economics are compelling. The constraint shows up on the network side.
Feeders were designed for one-way flow. High rooftop penetration brings voltage rise and reverse flow, and eventually export limits on new connections.
