It is the 186th anniversary of the South Australian Police Force, formed #OTD 28 April 1838 - 10 mounted constables and 10 on foot. Our founders didn’t include one, but felons from the convict colonies and sly grog shops soon called for law and order. On #KaurnaCountry.

Victor Harbor was given its name by Captain Richard Crozier who anchored in the lee of Granite Island and named the spot after his ship HMS Victor #OTD 26 April 1837. As for how it lost that ‘u’ in ‘harbour’, that's another story! On #RamindjeriCountry.

The Cross of Sacrifice Women’s War Memorial in Adelaide was unveiled on Anzac Day 1922. Women had placed small violet bags into the base of the cross, which contained names of loved ones who died in World War I. A State Heritage Place. On #KaurnaCountry. #otd 📸 @SLSA

Adelaide’s first Government House was completed #otd 24 April 1837. Roughly built by marines, it was nearer the Torrens. Gov Hindmarsh, his wife Susanna, 4 kids and a servant moved in from the Buffalo. They’d been on board for 9 months since it left England. On #KaurnaCointry.

In the storm that destroyed the Glenelg jetty in 1948, naval frigate HMAS Barcoo was pushed ashore in front of the West Beach shacks. Thousands walked to see it. After dredging and removal of parts of the ship, it was refloated 9 days later #OTD 20 April. On #KaurnaCountry
