If Labour can get any reforms right with early years support in place and changes to the education curriculum right the need for EHCPs will naturally reduce over time. Neither is going to be a quick fix and neither is going to save money!!
Children’s needs and disabilities are not going to disappear, we’re always going to have 1/5 of the population having some needs or another - you can’t change evolution! Research has proved this.
Spend the money where it’s identified and needed as early as possible and give our children the support earlier so they can become more independent. Prolonging support just kicks spend down the road and in the meantime creates a child with poor mental health and trauma.
@bphillipsonMP please save your money in fantastical reforms you think will save money. Keep the legal framework in place and save your money on expensive consultants. Focus on targeting the funding on correct early support so children thrive!!
