To put this into perspective, Street lighting was cut by $7.5M during Bass’s first three years. Sanitation was cut by $11M. Look at the effect those cuts have had on the city. This award is $11M, equal to the sanitation cuts. The LAPD continues defunding our city.

Karen Bass’s LAPD is openly defying a judge’s order to turn over LAPD moonlighting documents. I believe these records will show LAPD officers are working for ICE contractors.

After YEARS of stonewalling by LAPD, a court orders finally ordered it to produce public records documenting which cop works which side job. What does the LAPD do? They simply IGNORE the judgement. The law for thee, nor for me. Par for the course for LAPD.

Yes I saw they (LG) have responded to the Gamers Nexus investigation. Let me go through it claim by claim. LG says: TVs don't record ambient audio. Their position: voice data is only processed when you press the voice button, say "Hi LG" after activating Far-Field mode, or when the TV is monitoring for the wake word in standby. What Gamers Nexus found: the TV was converting speech to plain text and storing it in on-device logs. the microphone window stayed open 10-15 seconds after speech ended, capturing bystanders. audio was recorded while the screen appeared off and Ethernet was unplugged, then uploaded when the TV reconnected. LG did not address the plain text transcripts or the offline recording in their statement. Tom's Hardware noted this explicitly. LG says: ACR is opt-in. This is technically true under current settings. but opt-in for ACR is not the same as opt-in for the network scanning, the device fingerprinting, or the background data collection that Gamers Nexus documented via packet capture. LG says: network scanning is standard and enables smart home features. One test TV identified 38 unrelated devices including phones and printers belonging to people not involved in the test that's basically mapping your neighbors. What LG did not address: — the plain text transcripts of speech stored on-device — the 10-15 second microphone window after speech ends — the offline data caching and delayed exfiltration — the remote code execution vulnerabilities in webOS — the scale: 216 million LG TVs currently active worldwide LG's denial is selective they addressed the easiest claims and left the hardest ones untouched.

What the TV does that LG says it doesn't: LG publicly stated their TVs "do not collect, record, or store ambient conversations." Gamers Nexus found: — the TV converts speech to plain text and stores it in on-device logs — the microphone window stays open 10 to 15 seconds after talking stops, capturing bystanders who never addressed the TV — the TV recorded room audio while the screen appeared off and the Ethernet cable was unplugged, then exfiltrated the file the moment it reconnected The security vulnerabilities on top: Beyond the designed behavior, researchers found remote code execution vulnerabilities in webOS that could allow a compromised TV to be weaponized as a covert listening device. these sets are in hospitals. waiting rooms. boardrooms. hotels. a surgeon asked Gamers Nexus where that leaves patient confidentiality. Gamers Nexus has no answer. neither does LG. What to do right now: — disconnect your LG TV from your network entirely. route streaming through an Apple TV, Roku, or Fire Stick instead. — if you must keep it connected: put it on a separate IoT VLAN or guest network so it cannot reach your other devices. — disable the built-in microphone in settings. — check your privacy dashboard and opt out of ACR and ad personalization. — after every firmware update: recheck all of the above. I called this back in July. Cities are going to end contracts with Flock to make you feel like you've won the battle against mass surveillance. And as soon as you stop paying attention, they will re-install the same exact technology under a different name.
