I know this has been said before, but learning numbers, time, days of the week, etc is so boring. I’m pretty sure this is universally disliked among language learners, but does anyone here actually enjoy this part of a language?
@KyleDoesLangs I skip these chapters in textbooks and it always comes back to bite me but I just can't. I can barely count in English and Afrikaans, let alone try and learn numbers in another language.
@KyleDoesLangs @lindiebee I’ve managed to achieve a high level of Lebanese Arabic without learning the months and I’m totally fine with this. (Granted three calendars are used in Arabic, so that’s my excuse)
@KyleDoesLangs My first major milestone in learning any language is being able to talk to myself (think aloud). Because of this, I find time expressions and time/date related vocab (such as days of the week) immediately useful and therefore interesting.
@KyleDoesLangs It may be boring .... but so important!
@KyleDoesLangs I do enjoy it, hehe 😄 They are some of the first things you will learn to say in a new language (how old you are, what day is today, what time is it, and so on). Although I must confess that I still struggle with Hindi numbers after some time learning this language 😅
@KyleDoesLangs @lindiebee I like learning these first because it really invites you into a language. There are free resources out there to teach you these in almost any language. I think it might be a little boring but it is definitely a great start.
@KyleDoesLangs It depends on the language but generallh I hate learning greetings so much 😭 there's so much grammar in them that I haven't learned yet that I feel silly memorising them
@KyleDoesLangs I think it screams “child” and who wants to feel like they’re back in kindergarten, learning the things that are ingrained in our minds in native languages? I hate it, too. I only just got the hang of dates and 100+ in Spanish. I feel like I’m too good for it. Need a challenge 💅🏼
