Lamar Brown — 5★: The hype looks justified. Lane Kiffin praised Brown immediately after the opening practice, and he’s already working into the defensive-line rotation. His combination of size and athleticism gives LSU flexibility in how it uses him up front. Richard Anderson — 5★: “Big Rich” appears to be coming on quickly. Recent camp reports specifically identify Anderson as one of the young defensive linemen emerging, making LSU’s interior rotation even more interesting. Deuce Geralds 5⭐️— elite freshman DT: Geralds may be generating the most immediate buzz of the group. He was already receiving first-team work dating back to spring, and recent reporting says his name continues to surface during camp. The bigger story: LSU didn’t just land one potential difference-maker. Ty Benefield — NFL Scouting Report #LSU | Safety | 6’3”, 208 lbs | Senior Benefield enters the 2026 season as an intriguing NFL safety prospect after transferring from Boise State to LSU. He brings 41 games, 33 starts, 235 tackles, 18 TFL, 16 PBUs and 5 INTs into his LSU career. In 2025 alone, he led Boise State with 107 tackles, adding 8.5 TFL and two interceptions while earning First-Team All-Mountain West honors. NFL strengths: Benefield has legitimate NFL size and plays with the physicality to match it. He’s an aggressive downhill defender, productive tackler and experienced run-support safety who can attack underneath routes and play around the box. His production behind the line of scrimmage—18 career TFL—is especially interesting for a safety. His experience and versatility should give NFL teams options with him as a traditional safety, robber, big nickel or matchup piece against tight ends. Coverage: He’s shown useful ball production with five career interceptions and 16 pass breakups, but his biggest evaluation point at LSU will be proving that his coverage ability translates consistently against SEC speed. That’s particularly important if teams want to trust him in man coverage rather than primarily using him as a downhill safety. Areas to watch: Benefield needs to show NFL scouts that his athleticism, range and coverage instincts hold up against substantially better weekly competition. His LSU season gives him an excellent opportunity to answer those questions. Lane Kiffin has already publicly praised Benefield during his first LSU offseason, and there’s considerable buzz around his role entering 2026. My early projection: Day 2–Day 3 prospect with upside. Right now I’d roughly view him in the Rounds 3–5 range, but LSU gives him a real chance to climb. If Benefield combines his Boise State production with strong coverage tape against SEC receivers and tight ends, I could see him developing into a top-100 prospect. NFL comparison style: A big, physical, versatile safety whose value comes from tackling, instincts, box versatility and the ability to play multiple defensive roles rather than being strictly a deep centerfielder. x.com/HValentineLSU/…
