I saw this post and it made me realize so much of cw pedagogy operates under the assumption students WANT to do the work (write stories, novels, poems, etc) and WANT to help each other (lit citizenship). So what do you do when you have a situation where that isn't the case?
@LT_MCQ @rebeccarightnow The kids are wise and understand the purpose of exercises and assignments: the purpose is to fool the teacher? I got a robot to do my pushups for me too. Now my arms are atrophying, but I did log 20,000 pushups this week!
@LT_MCQ @Helenreflects I always thought that calculators ruined students' math ability, and Google search took away the culture of reading books for an answer. Now, AI is taking away creativity. Where will it end?
@LT_MCQ This stuff happening really shines a light on how bloated degree requirements have become. They’re obviously not wanting to take the class and it isn’t adding value to them but they’re still there, obvious sign of broken incentives
@LT_MCQ A 0/100 for failing to complete the assignment is an excellent motivator.
@LT_MCQ Writing is fun! I taught kids in inner city schools. They liked it WHEN they had correct support. They need a model, time to deeply examine the model for structure and language and make a rubric from it, time to practice together and then individually. guided peer review in class
@LT_MCQ Assign busy work and that’s what happens
@LT_MCQ My follow up question is, can you be specific about what was better about the final product of their work before chat GPT than after? What is the problem, be specific! Once you define that it will be easier to set requirements / assignments that much the stated goals.
@LT_MCQ Why are these students still being taught if they're caught cheating? Why aren't measures taken to insure the products they deliver are from their hands? If I caught this, the student would have to turn in all future assignments hand written to begin with. 1/2
@LT_MCQ It says a lot about the poster that they actually believe their students used to want to do writing assignments for homework. I guarantee that was never the case. Even people who love to write hate writing what someone else tells them to.
