92 years ago today Manor House, Turnpike Lane, Wood Green, Bounds Green & Arnos Grove opened on the Piccadilly line as part of the extension that would eventually make its way to Cockfosters. On the same day York Road closed to speed up journeys on the extended Piccadilly line

98 years ago today! The Northern Line extension from Clapham Common to Morden opened on 13th September 1926, featuring seven stations designed by Charles Holden. #LondonUnderground

This portal at East Finchley is the entrance to what was once the longest railway tunnel in the world. The tunnel runs for 17.25 miles to Morden on the Northern line and was carved out in stages from 1890 to 1939. The journey takes 50 minutes to reach daylight at the other end.

ON THIS DAY: 85 years ago, the LNER withdrew passenger services to Edgware resulting in closure of Edgware, Mill Hill (the Hale) and Mill Hill East to allow doubling, electrification, and transfer to LPTB. Ultimately only Mill Hill East reopened. Images: disused-stations.org.uk/e/edgware/inde…

In 2013, artist Mark Wallinger marked the 150th anniversary of the London Underground with 270 unique labyrinths, one for each Tube station. With two more being added in 2023 for new stations Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms. #London

Rayners Lane station was named after farmer Daniel Rayner, who owned the land purchased by the Metropolitan Railway. He must have been outstanding in his field. Out standing in his field is also where I imagine he did the deal. #London

Initially Mill Hill East station was to have a double track running to it but only a single track was ever laid. The intention was that they would add the second track when traffic developed, but even after the electrification of the line, this never happened.
