This may be related to the fact that the protein (retinol binding protein) that carries retinol through the blood is a negative acute phase protein. This means that its circulating concentrations are decreased during periods of inflammation!
Our new paper on certain fat-soluble serum vitamins as biomarkers for diseases in fresh cows is out! Retinol, the form of vitamin A measured in the blood, was associated with excessive urine ketones and uterine disease. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
