The American Thoroughbred herd is in decline and it needs to import new blood to reinvigorate it. Looking at the Bloodhorse Stallion register from 1965 and 1972 its clear that many farms stood stallions of much higher quality than they currently stand today. @EmotionalEquine
@Tinky47flat @CalvinLCarter @EmotionalEquine Of these, only Bold Ruler and*Nasrullah survive as sire lines.
@Tinky47flat @CalvinLCarter @EmotionalEquine But yes, add*Turn-to to the list.
Interestingly, the Princequillo line survived until very recently. Mossman, a sprinter, ironically, given Princequillo's original influence, is likely to have been the latter's final flag bearer. He died in 2021 in Australia. Here's a link to a good related article by John Sparkman: drf.com/news/sparkman-…
@Tinky47flat @BlueHenBldstck @EmotionalEquine According to pedigree query, that line is still viable in Australia. But many have not accomplished much on the racetrack. pedigreequery.com/index.php?quer…
@CalvinLCarter @BlueHenBldstck @EmotionalEquine Yes, Mossman appears to have one son still standing at stud, so the line lives on for the moment, but it is likely to be the final stop: clearmountainstud.com.au/stallions/love…
@Tinky47flat @BlueHenBldstck @EmotionalEquine There are a few other male-line descendants of Princequillo but it would take a farm with vision to see their possible potential like @claibornefarm that stood Danzig.
@CalvinLCarter @BlueHenBldstck @EmotionalEquine @claibornefarm No major farm is going to attempt to promote a stallion that lacks commercial appeal. Danzig, on the other hand, was a highly talented son of the greatest sire of his generation, so it didn't take much courage for Claiborne to put him on the roster.
@Tinky47flat @CalvinLCarter @BlueHenBldstck @EmotionalEquine @claibornefarm Plan C: Those blue-blooded open post-breeding season @jockeyclub mares that failed to settle «but with restored fertility/rest» need to shuttle to South America after weaning and nick back some of those relevant lines that are still thriving in that reverse-season universe.
