He has obviously never seen how the iPhone looks in the pocket of a construction worker within a few days of use.
Not everyone is letting their phone sit in silk lined tailored suits.
Apple's hardware boss says seeing people put screen protectors on their iPhones makes his "skin crawl"
The company says it works hard to make its displays durable enough without them
305 million dollar game btw.
A lot of these things are going to be 2D when you're out of bounds but come on man. This is terrible for that type of budget lol
Not player sentiment.
Bungie took the majority of their PVP development teams and put them on Marathon.
The ‘player sentiment’ was players noticing the complete lack of development in PVP game modes, maps, and events. Bungie put PVP on auto pilot with a barebones patch team and had the main team on Marathon.
You realize that saying ‘Bungie was flailing’ after late 2018/ early 2019 puts you right at Marathons beginning of development, right?
If you want to use that as a good point to say Destiny was flailing, maybe it’s because they started work on Marathon and began moving money and resources to that.
I just don’t agree. They had great success with Witch Queen as well.
Personally I noticed the drop in effort in 2022/2023 with Lightfall because I played more PvE than PvP. This is when Joe Blackburn admitted the lack of support for PvP. He offered moving PvE resource to PvP as a ‘task force’. It’s also when micro transactions were raised in price.
If you can’t see how that was to both - develop a PvP game outside of Destiny, and monetize Destiny players to fund Marathon development instead of Destiny, I don’t know how else to explain it.
It’s also the tip of the iceberg. You can also look at how they opted for Tarkov players to close test Marathon, and didn’t invite Destiny players to test, until 2025. They completely iced the core PvP audience and Bungie fans from giving any input.
Famously stated by Aztecross - Tarkov players tested the game, when asked who would play it if it was released today, no one raised their hand.
After moving money and resources to Marathon, they began the “episodes” saga of Destiny to try and keep the Destiny cash flow. They fumbled that with pushed release dates for both products because of lack of development, all being stretched thin to support both games. Also - lack of real development in the Destiny Universe as now both PvE and PvP assets are working on Marathon.
IMO, they should have been 2-3 years into development of a D3, or a new story line for Destiny by 2024. Something branching off from one of the many deep lore dives, to help keep their PvE players paying and playing Bungie games. Instead they opted to completely chop Destiny to try their luck with Marathon.
Bungie mismanaged resources that pushed Destiny players away. They cut development on Destiny to develop Marathon. They increased monetization of Destiny players (which also drove away a large majority) to put more money in Marathon development, while openly admitting to lack of development in Destiny. Now they want to make Marathon more like Destiny, because that’s where Bungie makes money.
This is why we are where we are.
As seen by the insane support a call for D3 has had, this isn’t lack of interest in Destiny that drove the game down, but a lack of development from Bungie.
Sorry, Final Shape* was when the player base really pushed back about lack of PVP updates and that’s what drove Bungie to start a new PVP task force.
This was kind of the “ah-ha” moment for most hardcore PVP players, because how could they have a game dedicated to PVE and PVP that didn’t already have a dedicated PVP team. They didn’t because Marathon had taken most of their devs.
His point about resources being pulled from Destiny is true. The lack of PVP work was apparent around Beyond Light, and when players complained Bungie said they were short staff on PVP devs and were going to move resources from PVE to bring a “PVP task force”.
This was because the majority of PVP devs were working on Marathon.
Sprinkle that with pushed timelines and missed release dates to not conflict with Marathon’s release, and you get the dumpster fire that is Bungie currently.
They are banking on this bringing a decent audience come Christmas, but I feel like it’s just too late.
This is almost a full year from release and current player base is dwindling.
I will try it out again though. Give it one more chance.
‼️NEW: Marathon’s first permanent PvE mode launches December 8 with the Symbiosis update.
The update will also add an experimental Team Deathmatch mode, new social space with a firing range, a new Runner shell, and more - thegamepost.com/marathons-seas…
