Random: It just clicked in my mind just now that the word “諦める” can be translated into “accept one’s fate” or even “embrace”… depending on context of course. It’s definitely a more expanded interpretation of the word, but it feels less bland than “give up.” Your thoughts?

@Masshiir But to answer your question; the kanji does not imply more than to “give up” and it is typically used in a negative nuance. But it can also be interpreted as “come to terms with” (as in give up on trying to convince the other party to budge)… I wish I can expand my vocabulary…
@Masshiir Sometimes it applies to my own dialogue when I talk to my therapist. There are things that I 諦める, like trying to let go of things that I know is not possible. But using the phrase “give up” makes me sound so defeated 😆 Ah “letting things go” is a good expression too…
