Also it's funny how this trailer wrecks the narrative about Nintendo being secretive about this game. Almost everything we saw here could have been predicted from past trailers. And I know that because many people (including me!) had reached those conclusions already!

After 15ish years of the Zelda team basically saying, "how about instead of the sequel you all wanted we did something completely different," it's wild how Tears of the Kingdom is largely the sequel we all wanted.

@stephentotilo If he has a Nintendo Account already that he wants to use on your old Switch, you just need to follow the steps here first: en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/de…

@stephentotilo Then he can access all those games offline, on your old Switch, and you can be hands-off from then on.

What's SO frustrating about Zelda discourse is that we've gotten exactly ONE game in BotW style and ppl are writing it off as if it's already in its final form. Like...y'all played NES Zelda, right? There's a lot that can happen from here if you'll come along for the ride.

I just don’t understand how anyone can look at all the emergent possibilities in yesterday’s TotK trailer and think “It would be better if you were locked in a building where all the doors have eyes above them and won’t open til you get the bow” like it hasn’t been done to death

@BombosMedallion I'm not too worried about availability after launch either. This isn't a must-have item for me when TotK comes out. I'll probably play with detached Joy-Cons anyway. But I do plan on gifting my launch Switch and Pro Controller to my niece/nephew so it'd be nice to have a new one.

I really hope that if they're gonna release special hardware they announce it today or tomorrow. I want to get off social media now to avoid stumbling on info about this game lol

@timeachris The writing just wasn't particularly good so it feels contrived and twisty for no reason

@timeachris I don't think it was about twists for the sake of twists. It closes a thread they clumsily set up in past games: the same person could end up a hero or a villain, sometimes by choice and sometimes by circumstance. They just used time travel this time instead of player choices.

@timeachris And I honestly don't get the hate for the ending. It has exactly the same narrative problem that the other BioShock games did: all three games want to be profound reflections on morality but actually suck at dealing with moral stakes. (Fig A: Little Sisters)

@timeachris (That is, the shooting galleries were pretty good and the exploration and discovery wasn't too bad when they actually bothered designing areas to reward it)

@timeachris The problem with Infinite is that it had too many shooting gallery rooms and not enough Metroid Prime style exploration and discovery, so it didn't feel like a good evolution of BioShock. But it honestly did both of those things pretty well.

@CartridgeGames At this point I think it'd be fair to say that Nintendo has been lying if it didn't happen

A lot of discussion today about the next Switch console and whether it will be backward compatible. I just want to draw people's attention to the red circle in the background of this image. It represents the expansion of Nintendo IP. Notice what it's encircling? 😉

So the question for the next Nintendo hardware is not "will it play Switch games?" It's "what games will we play on the next system that we CAN'T on Switch?" And that's way more interesting/exciting...even though no one is talking about it lol

I honestly think there isn't anywhere else for Nintendo to go but to carry their legacy purchases and libraries forward. There's too much risk in resetting the relationship again. No guarantee anyone comes over if Nintendo is the one platform that doesn't give them continuity.
