PCA study reports are just a function of whoever is appointed to study the issue. Case in point: the PCA got woke egalitarianism and white guilt from the committees appointed by George Robertson (a woke egalitarian who now ministers in the EPC, which is equally compromised).

Keller essentially built a brand around a winsome effeminacy. It’s fundamentally a vibe. Once you view his legacy through that lens, everything he and his disciples do makes complete sense. (It’s also why it’s harder to combat than merely tightening up the BCO.)

Some very helpful things in here, particularly on the juxtaposition of pastors/influencers. Wholeheartedly agree with taking men to the hidden parts of ministry in order to expose them to the wonderful calling of shepherding. There’s some things that remain untouched or glossed over though. The claim that egalitarianism has been/is being fought against is assumed by the author and remains unqualified. It’s also subjective. I attend a reformed PCA church and reformed seminary. I would disagree that it’s being fought against enough and at times, still being willingly embraced - how many time do we need to go through women deacon overtures? MDivs are offered to women at WTS and RTS. They shouldn’t be. Biblical counseling degrees are tailored very much toward women which is also problematic - counseling IS shepherding the soul. We are outsourcing this function in an arguably egalitarian direction. Women’s ministry’s in churches often offer a far more robust program to disciple women. RE’s often function more as senators casting votes than shepherds leading souls. In addition to this, while the article touches on many young men having witnessed the deluge of pastoral failure over the past decade, something that has negatively effected them, it failed to call leadership to radical accountability when they do in fact make mistakes. Elders are so afraid to own their shortcomings and sins specifically. They will claim from the pulpit that they need the atoning blood of Jesus just as much as anyone (yes and amen!) but when faced with the opportunity to repent publicly, own their mistakes and move on, they typically circle the wagons and go on defense. They demand a level of grace unequally measured to their offense. So many men, both young and even reaching to age 40 are begging to be led, discipled and rebuked. Most elders just won’t do it - I’ve experienced this in and out of the PCA. Other items that deserve attention - the general health of leaders is poor. They’re obese, riddled by constant tiredness, and generally appear sloppy. In essence, they possess no gravitas. They will continue to find it difficult to get young men to follow them because of this. Lastly - ecclesial bureaucracy. Do not underestimate how many men are avoidant of the ministry, particularly in PCA circles, because of this. Everything needs a committee. Appeals are endless. Overtures become tedious arguments that amount to childish mental masturbation. When men “just do things” they are scolded. “Respect the process”, they are told. Often many are left in a state of paralysis by analysis. I agree men should be discipled better. God knows I need that. I also believe that radical accountability on leadership is a necessary prerequisite for it.

PCA conservatives should reorient GA ministries like MNA toward a conservative vision (if one ever truly existed) or push them to presbyteries. But for byFaith, just gut it completely without replacement. The denomination would actually benefit.
