Be honest: do you track your losses as closely as your wins?

A winning ticket can be a terrible decision. A losing ticket can be a great one. If you only judge your bets by whether they won or lost tonight, you are trapped in short-term noise. Sharp thinkers do the opposite. They separate the quality of the choice from the random bounce of the ball. Variance means short-term results lie to you. Here is the four-question check we run after every game: 1. Was the price good when I bet it? Did you beat the market or take a worse number than what was out there? If you took a bad number, you gave away an edge before the game even started. You want to see that the market moved toward your position after you entered. Value is always about the number you grabbed, not just the team you backed. 2. Did I stick to my unit size? Did you stay disciplined and bet your standard unit, or did you let emotion touch your bankroll? Did you double up to chase a loss from earlier in the afternoon? If you changed your sizing based on anger or greed, the bet was a mistake before the whistle blew, even if it ended up cashing. 3. Did I have a reason I can write down? Can you state your case in plain words without leaning on gut feeling? If someone asked you why you took that side, could you show a clear angle? If your only reason was a hunch or seeing someone hype it up, you were guessing. A real process demands a written reason every time. 4. Would I make the same bet again? Erase the final score. Forget the cash or the loss. If that exact game were played tomorrow with the exact same price and information, would you make that call again? If the answer is yes, you executed your plan.
