I think it would be very funny to go to small town (or pretty much ANY town in) Texas and make this statement and see how people react

My dad and I were on a road trip last week and we walked into an ice cream shop in Mathis, TX (dying, sclerotic town) and we were such fish out of water (even tho he's a native Texan). I assure you, Mathis residents do not by and large want to become Manhattanites ahahaha.
@LizWolfeReason What if your ideal place is neither Manhattan nor a car dependent suburbia dominated by giant parking lots and chain stores and restaurants, but a walkable and mixed use small town or city filled with local entrepreneurs?
@LizWolfeReason Or Ohio. I don't live in Manhattan because I don't want to.
@LizWolfeReason the selection bias in his rant is intense.
@LizWolfeReason Ditto for anywhere in the Midwest. Why would anyone want to willingly go to NYC, much less Manhattan Island?
@LizWolfeReason Well, the free market suggest he's right...
@LizWolfeReason The only people who want to live in Manhattan are the ones who live there. The suburbs were created by people who specifically didn’t want to live in Manhattan.
