@rumbolstiltis@hiro44_pino Good tip. Once you have the export, the conversations.json is hard to read. Pulling the answers you care about into dated Markdown notes (date + the question as the title) makes them searchable later, in Obsidian or any notes app.
@SI5NAL@VraserX Small nuance for anyone following this: in ChatGPT the export is under Settings > Data controls > Export data. You get an emailed ZIP, and the link expires after 24 hours, so download it quickly. Claude has its own under Settings > Privacy.
@Laloba_002@LighthouseWeb3 Agree that a folder isn't a memory system by itself. What helps me is a light convention: one note per decision, titled with the date and the question, with a short 'why' line. Then retrieval is search rather than hoping the agent recalls it.
@Payton_Thompson Plain Markdown is the underrated part here. Since the notes are just files, any agent can read them. One tip that helps: give each note a dated title plus the question behind it, so both you and the agent can find the right one fast.
Small habit that pays off: when an AI chat gives you something worth keeping, save it as a Markdown note titled with the date and the question you asked. Months later you'll search your own notes instead of scrolling a sidebar of 400 untitled chats.
@ioGLNX@thsottiaux Frustrating. While support sorts it out, Settings > Data controls > Export data emails you a zip with your chat history (JSON/HTML), so the text survives even if attachments don't. Saving key threads as dated Markdown files in a vault is a good backup habit too.
@draftandfocus@ericson4smith Same here, a vault as the hub works well. One tip: save key chats as dated Markdown (2026-10-27-topic.md) with a short summary and tags up top, so links and search keep working. ChatGPT: Settings > Data controls > Export data gets you the raw archive.
@tinkerlog Good heads-up. Before locking anything important behind a PIN, export first: Settings > Data controls > Export data emails you a zip with all chats in JSON/HTML. Keeping key threads as dated Markdown notes in an Obsidian vault is a nice second copy.
Build update: ThreadVault's Perplexity bulk export works in our build today. Every thread to clean Markdown + JSON, saved locally on your machine. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are next. One-time $9 founding price, no subscription. Waitlist: loomwise.app/threadvault/?r…
@abhishekanita1 What helps me: keep a running markdown note per project (decisions, context, dates) and paste it at the start of each session. Plus export your chats monthly so nothing lives only in the app.
@PatSchaber Agreed. Besides a shared library, a monthly export of the team's chats (ChatGPT: Settings > Data controls > Export data) into a dated folder means the history survives even if accounts change.
@pusset_fab96912 Courage, 1 332 conversations ! Si l'export officiel (Paramètres > Contrôle des données > Exporter) reste en panne, relance-le plus tard : il envoie un ZIP (HTML + JSON) par e-mail. Et garde une copie datée hors de l'appli, ça évite ce genre de stress.
Claude tip: Settings > Privacy > Export data emails you a download link with all your conversations as JSON. Raw, but it's a real backup. Save it in a dated folder every month and a great thread never disappears with an account issue or cleanup.
@ninodirector Muy cierto. Truco práctico: guarda el ZIP en una carpeta tuya y copia las conversaciones que importan a archivos Markdown con fecha (2026-10-26-tema.md). Así no dependes de abrir el conversations.json cada vez.
@realdrovex Descriptive filenames make a huge difference. If you also keep AI chats, date them (2026-10-26-topic.md) and one topic per file, same as your notes. ChatGPT's Settings > Data controls > Export data gives you a ZIP to pull the keepers from.
@ellfyy_ Plain text files you own is the right call. For the chat side of it, I export ChatGPT (Settings > Data controls > Export data) and Claude (Settings > Privacy > Export data) monthly and drop the keepers into the same folder with dated filenames, so the AI can read them too.
@lateascent Great point that the export button only helps while you can still log in. One more habit: once a month, unzip the export and move the chats you'd hate to lose into dated Markdown files (2026-10-26-topic.md) somewhere you control. Then the archive doesn't depend on the account.
Tip for ChatGPT users: Settings > Data controls > Export data emails you a ZIP of every chat (HTML + JSON). Not pretty, but it's a real backup. Do it monthly and keep the ZIP somewhere you control, not just inside the app.
@knaka Good find. Tip for anyone doing this: besides one-off exports, ChatGPT (Settings > Data controls > Export data) and Claude (Settings > Privacy > Export data) have built-in full-account exports. Worth running one every month or so as a backup.
