There's currently 53,111 homeless people in Scotland. Where are the newly liberated prisoners going?? It's all well and good releasing prisoners early - but there's nowhere for them to go! And where is the throughcare/aftercare?? 🤦♀️ I worry about this "plan"...

@jimbrownblog The most effective prisons are the ones that don't need to be built. And that's achievable by investing that same public money further upstream, to address the hard problems bringing people, often young people, into the criminal justice system in the first place. #prisons
HMP Glenochil prison governor has called for ageing residents to be housed in secure care homes rather than in standard jails. The governor said that 50 of the 730 men in her prison have personalised healthcare requirements, and the prison was not built to cope with their needs.
A basic requirement that, according to some loved ones of prisoners, is being removed as a form of punishment. If true, are some our prison officers just as institutionalised as the very people they lock up for 23.5 hrs a day?
Claims of prisoners' mattresses being removed as a "form of punishment" from an establishment in Scotland are worrying. Whilst the Governor, in response, doesn't dispute these claims, he advises that a mattress is not considered a "privilege", rather a "basic requirement" 1/2
