After a 9-months reviewing process and a couple of additional time kept in maternity, the baby finally came out! So happy to share my first co-authored paper, just published in #PNAS!! #birds #macroecology #climate pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
The study, lead by @Ryan__Germain, @Macroecology, provides insightful results on changes in bird's functional diversity across the past million years. By combining functional information (traits) with genomic-based estimates of changes in population size,
we identify the areas of the spectrum that have undergone the biggest changes in functional diversity, at the global scale.
Overall, functional diversity has remained pretty stable across the last million years. Most of the changes we highlight are located in peripheral zones of the functional spectrum, going in the sense of a so-called #erosion of global functional diversity.
When jumping into the drivers of such changes, we come to realise that birds showing the strongest responses to past climate warming periods tend to stand out of the crowd, suggesting the importance of climate in the observed patterns.
Hopefully, this work will bring a contribution to conservation efforts. Enjoy reading!!🦅🦤🐦
