Luke’s Place Advocacy Director Pamela Cross recently spoke at "The Walrus Talks Gender-Based Violence" at Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto. Pam discusses the negative impacts of #criminalizingcoercivecontrol. Check it out at the link below. ow.ly/wKu150Qb6X3
@LukesPlace1 As a victim of coercive control in the context of domestic violence, survivor of 2 murder attempts due exactly to coercive control, I am shocked to hear the words coming out of an illustre expert advocating for not criminalizing coercive control.
@LukesPlace1 There is a direct link between coercive control & femicide, filicide. Perpetrators trap their victims in harmful relationships, using coercive control to cut them off of any resources that will come to their aid. He controls my cellphone, any communication w/ my care providers,
@LukesPlace1 I believe not criminalizing coercive control is sending victims to a certain death, at the hands of their perpetrators. It is a deadly stub in the chest of victims, and an encouragement to perpetrators to ramp up their abuse.
