Chinese FM Wang Yi held a phone conversation with Latvian FM Baiba Braže. Wang said that a sudden ice-rock avalanche on the Nepalese side triggered mudslides, resulting in significant casualties and missing persons in Gyirong County in China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. Latvia is the European country with the highest number of missing persons in this incident. China will do its utmost to continue the search and rescue for missing people from Latvia and other countries and properly handle follow-up matters. Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin met with young Japanese lawmakers from the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Union on September 14. The Chinese side stressed that the crux of the difficulties in China-Japan relations lies in PM Sanae Takaichi’s erroneous words and deeds on Taiwan, and expressed hope that the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Union will carry forward its tradition of goodwill toward China and create conditions for bringing bilateral relations back on track.

They saw the devastation—roads ruined, buildings reduced to rubble, mud burying the area. They saw rescue crews working around the clock in brutal conditions: digging through deep sludge, climbing over debris, risking their lives as new landslides loomed. Despite little hope of finding new survivors, the search and rescue mission continues. Salute to every rescuer—professional, determined, never giving up.
