@MarieleRedclaw The only people defending BioWare are people who don’t play the games made for them.

@bioware Hey @PatrickWeekes, how’s that table looking?

@decoyposts Where’s that gif of a tardigrade playing a violin?

@Foyege24 Bravo, maestro. Well done, very well done.

@MarioNawfal The Saracen invasion of Europe shall go uncontested, both because no one is willing to fight and kill and die, but also because it would be racist and Islamophobia. We get the world we deserve.

“Women talk a lot about how scared of male violence they are, but from their behavior it's clear they never actually consider it a possibility” When I was eighteen I was out for the night with my bf and some friends, we were barhopping in Kings Cross. I was tipsy & occasionally lippy & obnoxious towards strangers (who were asking for it!). My bf quietly & discreetly at one point during the night said “babe, I love you, but fuck sometimes I worry that you’re writing cheques I won’t be able to cash, if it comes to and I’m on my own”. I was like “wtf are you talking about?” He literally had to explain to me that if I was being a fuckwit starting trouble, he’d obviously have to defend me if anything went down, and if I’m being a massive smart ass and it’s just like him & me & my best girlfriend, then he’s going to be in a fight on his own. All because I was being an antagonistic smart ass to some strangers who couldn’t take a joke. The idea that I needed to be able to back up my words with violence if it came to it, was something that had literally never occurred to me. Ever. It was a total revelation. Suddenly i realised talk wasn’t “cheap” in this context, it was expensive. The idea that I could effectively get him beaten up, or put him in real danger, by being a precocious little shit arguing with idiots because I could, was horrifying. From then on I was extremely reluctant to ever argue with strangers or act like a smart ass unnecessarily, because I was suddenly keenly aware that the guys we were with could potentially be expected to pay with their lives for any poorly received flippant comments we made. It really was totally novel to me. This isn’t how women see the world, at all.

Ideally, he wouldn't have reacted like this But any guy is aware that when you shove another man, getting lightly swatted (or more) is 100% on the table, so they won't do it unless they're being intentionally aggressive Women talk a lot about how scared of male violence they

@MarieleRedclaw No fun allowed in Canada.

@NWBroJaneway With your chest man! Christ! Is! King!

Perhaps, in another universe, their story unfolded like this. **PartOne** #Malfoy

@Foyege24 Just about the entire Malfoid following agrees the septumsepmra scene is absolutely needed for the pairing to work. It wakes up both of the characters to their feelings for each other and crosses the rubicon for their arcs.

@MarieleRedclaw Star Wars maybe?

@BigMoneyCmndr @stopgameru 4A Games is Ukrainian. You can guess the reasoning.

One of the most enlightening takes on Malfoid that I've seen so far was a YouTube video I watched today that has since been lost to the aether. At the end of the video he made the point that this kind of story is extremely culturally important for the right. Not because it's conquering a leftist beloved IP or because it reintroduces beauty and romance to storytelling. Not that those aren't fine things. No it does something much bigger. For at least two decades we in the west have been subjected to nothing but deconstructive storytelling. Every expectation and trope is so routinely subverted that we know the story from the start. Its why so much modern media is just... ...boring. Because God forbid the guy actually get the girl, the bad guy be bad and get his comeuppance, or the ending be at all happy. (Aside: I believe this is responsible for the recent rise in eastern media) But I digress. What Malfoid actually is, is an inversion of the deconstruction of media. Its taking a broken story and making it whole. It takes a plot that was ok but flawed, and uses traditional story telling to fill in those gaps and create a recognizable pattern that elevates the whole thing. He doesn't call it this in the video, but I like to think of it as "reconstructive" or "restorative" story telling: the elevation of a story by the inclusion of traditional storytelling methods and tropes so that it speaks to what is true about the human condition. There was one other example he gave that comes, of all places, from Star Wars. While almost all of modern Star Wars under Kathleen Kennedy was deconstructionist crap, one show stood out: The Mandolorian. After the debasement of Luke Skywalker in the ironically name Rise of Skywalker, many people were extremely discouraged. Mark Hamill himself said that he didn't agree with anything that his character was doing and he didn't recognize Luke by the end. In steps Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, and in the final scene of season 1 of The Mandolorian we get to see Luke Skywalker back in his rightful spot as the Big Damn Hero, doing the Right Thing and Saving The Day. Grown men cried watching that scene; once again seeing their childhood hero back in his rightful roll. It was reconstructive, restorative even, and why the left went all-out attacking the show. I know we all lament the idea of Malfoid fading even if we know it's inevitable. What we should do though is learn from it and take those lessons forward to new projects, be they fanfic or entirely new IPs: - understand that "creative" work is not the domain of the left - avoid deconstruction at all costs and instead speak to the truth of human nature - embrace traditional western storytelling On that last point, I want to remind y'all that not every story is a love story. The western storytelling tradition is rich with different story tropes that each serve a purpose: tragedy (Anakin and Padame in the prequel series), comedy (White Christmas), heroes journey (Dartanian from Three Musketeers), great quest (LoTR), rebirth (Kousko in Emperor's New Groove or the Beast in Beauty and the Beast), rags to riches (Edmond in Count of Monte Cristo). There's more, but you get the idea. Don't be afraid to retell these stories again and again. They resonate so well because they speak to fundamental elements of the human condition. Its tempting to wonder what other stories are out there that might be a tweak or two away from greatness, but I wouldn't get hung up on that. You aren't gonna catch lightning in a bottle twice. Instead I say look forward, using these lessions, and build something great from the ground up, borrowing pieces from the past to build the future.

@MarieleRedclaw We got Harry Potter back, we’ll get Narnia back.

@MarieleRedclaw

@Phil1UpCollects

Okay, so, normally, I lurk and post memes (and snark (badly)) but this Shane Gillis SNL fiasco has got me agitated. I kinda don’t want to see it, because Shane’s monologue had better be the funniest shit since Will Smith smacked the shit out of Chris Rock. And I highly doubt it.

Jadis (The White Witch) is blowing up The Eagle & Child. This is the pub where Lewis, Tolkien and The Inklings, an all-male literary group, famously met. Greta Gerwig and @Netflix are quite possibly "blowing up the patriarchy" here, and completely up-ending the world of Narnia here--and the legacy of the stories.

Jadis is using magic in the real world now... Narnia is going to make A LOT of changes to C.S. Lewis' work. Why even adapt it? Why not make something new?

The amount of Christians I see saying that the Narnia garbage isn’t a big deal & that it’s a-okay for Hollywood to drape Aslan, the literal representation of Christ in Narnia, in trans and gay colors is alarming. This is why we lose. Because none of them have a friggen backbone.
