A few checkered leaves of a dark red trillium, maybe little sweet betsy, and more rue anemones are still up at the NCBG. Other early flowers seem to be gone. Many sprigs of a hawthorn with highly dissected, downy leaves going to Morgan Creek. An orange hawkweed is blooming here.
Also at the NCBG yellow stargrass, star chickweed, bluets, green-and-gold, another cinquefoil, hot pink wood sorrel, hawkweed, l.l. sage, pawpaws, tuliptrees, maple-leaved viburnum, the last downy arrowwoods, etc are blooming, and flowers resembling Phlox and golden alexander.
Out and about 4/23 a Rhododendron was blooming near Duke, briefly attracting a cabbage (?) white. Masses of dark blue irises are blooming at 54/15-501. Purple Catawba Rhododendrons are blooming over Morgan Creek at the NCBG. I've been missing the one Rhododendron along NE Creek.
What I think is a Chinese fringetree finished blooming here, but what might be the same species is in full bloom at Southwest Library. American fringetrees are blooming in woods. Firethorn might be blooming. Black locusts are flowering briefly now and blackberries are flowering.
Blue or violet German (?) irises and blue-eyed grass, also in the iris family, were blooming here by 4/18. I might be hearing flycatchers and blue-gray gnatcatchers. Dayflowers sprouted. Spiderwort is still blooming and the azaleas are finishing. Downy arrowwood already finished.
On a recent Monday AM I saw a 1st snake of the year, a small, glossy, reddish worm (?) snake. Rough earth snakes might be more often found. Dewberries were flowering by 4/11 and lyre-leaved sage today. Red-tip, star of Bethlehem, and probably black cherries have been flowering.
Many fallen maple keys or seeds now. A dark blue spiderwort is also flowering, and an onion. Stalks of dogbane came up recently. Blueberries are flowering, even one that must have been poisoned a year ago. A volunteer Carolina petunia flowered in 2023, but the rest were killed.
I might have seen a warbler. Any gnatcatchers? There might still be old flowers on the red maple and a Japan. maple has flowers. Hollies, Chinese fringetree, cinquefoil, pale blue violets, azaleas, dandelions, catmint, Poncirus, M. periwinkle blooming. An ash, etc. breaking bud.
This afternoon here saw a first spring dragonfly; 1-2 blues; something like a pipevine swallowtail, maybe a female; a tiger swallowtail, a turkey vulture, a large male anole, a large ground skink, various hymenopterans, and heard chimney swifts. Dance flies (?) have been out.

There was a penumbral lunar eclipse early on 3/25. I forgot the time and 'missed' it, but I did look at the Moon early Monday morning and thought that it didn't seem very bright or large for a full Moon, going by the calendar. I thought it was just obscured by the loblolly pines.
Also 3/19 Wisteria blooming or about to, an orange poppy or Coreopsis-like flower, white clover, etc. 2 flying animals near Duke, probably bees, but maybe they were early hummingbirds. Noticed Celtis leafing here ~3/22 and a mimosa the next morning. Cinquefoil blooming by ~3/24.
