“You will lose friends, You will lose lovers, You will lose comfort, but if in losing them, You find yourself, You have gained more than kings.” - Marcus Aurelius The philosopher-emperor who ruled Rome while confronting war, plague, and the constant struggle to master himself. Born in 121 AD, Marcus Aurelius was raised within Rome’s imperial system and deeply influenced by Stoic philosophy. When he became emperor, he inherited enormous responsibilities and eventually faced devastating disease, political unrest, and years of warfare along the empire’s frontiers. Rather than allowing power and hardship to consume him, Marcus repeatedly turned inward, writing private reflections meant to strengthen his character and discipline his thoughts. Many of these writings were composed during military campaigns and were never intended for publication. Those personal reflections eventually became known as Meditations, one of the most enduring works of Stoic philosophy. Nearly two thousand years later, its lessons on resilience, responsibility, self-control, and accepting what lies beyond our control continue to resonate.

Back in 2003, a German film crew filming in the Gobi Desert captured an incredibly moving moment: after a tough two-day birth, a mother camel rejected her newborn. A nomadic family then performed the ancient Hoos singing ritual passed down for generations. Once the song ended, the camel shed tears and finally accepted her baby. This powerful scene became one of the most memorable parts of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Story of the Weeping Camel.

August’s #MonthlyMural highlights “25 Windows and a Frame” by Spanish artist SAN (Daniel Muñoz), a series of paintings created on the Magik Theatre. In partnership with San Antonio’s contemporary arts organization @luminariasa and Spanish cultural agency Ink and Movement, the project was inspired by San Antonio’s rich heritage and the artist’s interpretations of South Texas architecture, history, and community. 🎨🏛️ Through each window, SAN offers a unique perspective on the people, places, and stories that make San Antonio special, creating a vibrant connection between the city’s past and present. ✨ #GetCreativeSA

Tom Brady reveals the brutally honest talk he had with a Michigan sports psychologist that turned him from a benchwarmer into the GOAT. Brady's transformation started with one change: the way he thought. "I sit on the bench my first year, and I really had—I would call it—a lot of self-defeating attitudes and behaviors. I always had an excuse. 'Coach doesn't want me in there.'" "I had a sports psychologist. His name was Greg Harden. I would go into his office every Tuesday, and he would say, 'Tom, I like you. You work hard, but you have a shitty attitude.'" "'How about you start worrying about what you can control and stop talking about the other quarterbacks, stop talking about the coaches not putting you in.'" "If they give you three reps, you do the best with the three you get. Quit bitching about you only getting three or you going in there with the backup receivers. No one cares.'" "'You treat practice like it's a game. If you throw a touchdown in the two-minute in practice, you celebrate like it's the game.'" Brady never approached it that way before. Then "sure enough" everything changed. "Mmy energy started getting way better. I was bringing juice; I had the right attitude." "Then all of a sudden, I'm bringing the juice, man. Every day, boom." "That [mindshift] really helped me get better." The road to 7 Super Bowl rings didn't start on the practice field; it started in that very office…
