8 THINGS TO CHECK & DO WHEN BUYING A CAR… 1. Define a budget If this is your first time buying, don’t forget to budget for after sales service costs, dealer delivery, extras, insurance, finance costs as well as the running costs. If buying on hire purchase, decide how much you can afford to pay on a monthly basis, as this will help inform what type of car you can afford. 2. Seek Bank Finance approval Unless you have the cash up front to pay for a new car, you’ll require Bank financing of some kind. Know what your limit is and seek approval from your bank / financier so that you’ll have confidence when negotiating on price. Generally an approval will be valid for a number of months and will ensure you don’t have to rush around when you do find the car you a looking for. 3. Research cars When it comes to researching cars, you can use a @alasirimotors. We will find, compare, and negotiate on your behalf. Alternatively, if you don’t mind doing the work yourself, you can start by looking online to see industry standardized data on new and used car prices. Before you decide on a model, consider what your everyday needs are. 4. Request information Find out as much as you can about the cars you’re interested in before you arrange an inspection. Download brochures from car manufacturer websites, or request call backs from dealers who can answer specific questions. If you are contacting a private seller, be sure to find out how long they have owned the car, the car’s service history and their reason for selling. 5. Inspection time If you don’t feel confident in your knowledge of cars, it can be useful to bring along an informed friend to the car inspection. This is particularly true if you are purchasing a used car through a private seller. Ask to see the logbook and make note of any parts that do not appear to be in good condition. Finally, take the car for a test drive at slow and fast speeds and on different road types if you can. Pay attention to how it feels and sounds and check that you are content with the layout of the interior features. Switch off the radio when doing the road test so as to be able to hear any peculiar sounds coming from the engine and suspension. 6. Check the facts If you are buying a used car, check with the NTSA and Its current insurer , to see if any money is owed on the vehicle or if the car was written off by an insurance company (Insurance companies have the AKI IMIDS portal through which they check . Make sure the details in the logbook match the sellers KRA Pin and National Identity card names and double check that the odometer reading is the same as what was advertised. You may also need to research the costs of any replacement parts you think the car might need. 7. Negotiate on price Whether you are buying from a dealer or a private seller, don’t let yourself be pushed beyond your pre-defined budget. Know what you can afford and don’t go beyond it when negotiating. If you feel uncomfortable negotiating with a dealer, you should consider the help of a car sourcing and buying service e.g. @alasirimotors.These services will often source prices from a range of local dealers and negotiate price and features on your behalf. 8. Get the paperwork Once you've struck a deal make sure you have the original registration papers, service history and logbook. Get a written receipt with the seller's details for each payment you make. If you are buying from a dealership, ensure the particulars of the vehicle are correct before signing any order. Once you have signed the order you are locked into that purchase and there may be cost associated with changing or cancelling the order. All transactions to be done through Bank transfers.

HIRE PURCHASE CAR BUYING TIPS FOR NEW BEES 1) Identify a genuine Broker/Intermediary to do the ground work for you by scouting & checking for units in good condition. vehicle grading , mechanical condition & mileage are important when checking a vehicle. have your broker send you photos & videos of the car to verify its existence 2) Once A car has been identified arrange to come down. Take a flight so that you arrive fresh & not feeling tired. If you must come by bus then it means you will have to spend a night in Mombasa as driving back in your car might present a challenge if you are fatigued. 3) Once at the showroom do not present the hire purchase option to the owner of the showroom. Bargain for cash then from there let the showroom add the hire purchase interest. Showrooms in Mombasa usually add an extra 100,000 on top of the cash price for 12 months repayment period & 150,000 to 200,000 for 15 & 18 months respectively. The deposit made should be 50% to 60% of the hire purchase price. Then the balance will be cleared in equal monthly instalments as agreed. 4) You will be charged Kshs. 20,000 for fitting a tracking device on the vehicle. This will be fully handed over to you once done paying for the vehicle. You will also be required to take annual comprehensive insurance for the vehicle . 5) Remember to buy the right type of cover depending on the intended use of the vehicle. Motor private cover for private use, motor commercial own goods for your own business & for carrying your own goods & Motor general cartage if you will use the car to carry goods on behalf of third parties. Your intermediary should know abit about insurance as showrooms tend to overcharge hire purchase clients on insurance. Believe me they really know how to over charge. talk to us on 0705030596 for more on the best insurance rates. 6) When taking Insurance cover , remember to incorporate the name of the showroom into the insurance contract as the vehicle is legally theirs & is under hire purchase agreement. They have a financial interest over the vehicle. In case of an accident it is the showroom that will be indemnified by the insurance company. 7) Have the vehicle valued before it leaves the showroom so that the valuation report photos capture the showroom as point of inspection. incase any modifications are made that result in a fire for example you can argue that this was well identified in the valuation report & that you had no knowledge. just an example we are giving. 7) Have a witness sign the hire purchase sale agreement . read through before you commit as your signature binds you once you sign 8) Most units come with two car keys so always remember that the showroom will have a spare key just incase you default on payment and vehicle needs to be repossesed. 9) Take copies of the agreement & particuars of the showroom. 10) Once you are done paying, demand for a change of logbook to your name immediately . 11) Demand for the spare keys once done paying for the car 12) Ask the insurance company to remove the showroom name from the policy by providing the new logbook in your name. 13) If you are not sure about monthly instalments, avoid hire purchase as most showrooms do not joke when repossesing cars call us on 0705030596 incase of more questions

Mombasa Car Buying Tips 1) Buy when It's Rainy day weather & Not Sunny day weather. 2) Buy from a Car yard not a Showroom 3) Act less interested in a car, buy at good price. 4) Pay via Bank,Do not carry Cash 5) Avoid Going to Bamburi for party before Buying. 6) Service you Car before Leaving 7) Do not come with a fixed budget 8) Avoid a particular showroom - Most of their vehicles come with gearbox issues. 9) Get a trusted Broker / Intermediary 10) Get Comprehensive insurance cover Once you sign sale agreement 11) Do not buy a car with Snow Tyres . Check & ask for All weather tyres. Snow tyres burst under Hot Weather. Kenya is not Japan ! Tyres must be changed. 12) Japaneese popular brands like Toyota cars are over priced in Mombasa. European brand cars are Underpriced 13) Have someone Search a vehicle in advance for you. Walking while searching for a car is better than driving so as to not miss out on particular showrooms that are squeezed without parking areas. Let your broker walk in advance & search. Once you are here you just Pay When Coming to Mombasa to Buy a car kindly control your excitement. Be Sober in all your dealings 14) Do not call & engage 1000 brokers on a single deal. Identify one broker & stick to him. Too many interests on one deal will see you get average service. It is easier to hold a single individual accountable than a whole group. Plus a single broker will give you the best service. Just know How to Identify good ones from your phone call conversations & chats. 15) Act let interested : Car dealers are like Beautiful Women. The more interest you show on them the sweeter they act. Never act over interested in a car. The price will start High & it will stay there for a very long while especially if it is the only available unit in Mombasa. 16) Buy from Yards not showrooms: Yards have huge stock & variety to choose from. Yards are cheaper than showrooms. Showrooms limit their cars to already selected units & sell highly to cater for rent, security, water bills etc. Open yards are cheaper to buy from in Mombasa. Examples of Open yards include : Canon Motors,Aisha Motors(Railways), Al Husnain & Qaisar motors etc
