The greatest make-up effect is not so much a showy monster as it is a convincing old age make-up that no one even realises is a make-up. Most people watched The Exorcist (1973) believing Max von Sydow was in his seventies, though actually he was only 44. Hell of a magic trick!
@MarshallJulius Probably the best I've ever seen. Also of course, the performance really sells his age too. Not quite the same thing but I've also always been impressed with the Emperor's makeup in Return of the Jedi. It was far superior to how it looked in Revenge of the Sith.
@MarshallJulius Another one worth mentioning…
@MarshallJulius Brilliant irony! An actor trying to look much older!
@MarshallJulius Dick Smith was a pioneer and genius in his field. Add to that he was a kind and generous human being as well. He was wonderful.
@MarshallJulius Yea I was confused on how he was still around when he was old in that movie. Just like Wendy from HOOK. She looked 100 in 1994
@MarshallJulius Von Sydow was actually wearing more makeup than Linda Blair, I read.
@MarshallJulius I would say why didn’t they just hire an older man, but Max von Sydow is one of the greatest actors ever. Brilliant filmmaking.
@MarshallJulius So that's why he looked like he never aged for the past 45 years...we all thought he was already old!
