Standard Republican positions: 1) Mass shootings are a mental health problem, not a guns problem 2) It should be more difficult to access mental health treatment through Medicaid, which is too generous.
If the problem in Texas is mental health treatment then “expand Medicaid through the ACA” is sitting right there as a policy solution.
@MattGertz Republicans don't understand complex social systems. They form policy based on whether or not it can fit on a bumper sticker or sounds good chanted at a rally.
@MattGertz Do you have a gun? Has it shot anyone? There’s my answer.
@MattGertz 3) red flag laws are bad because blah blah blah slippery slope blah blah blah 2nd amendment bible guns god freedom blah blah blah.
@MattGertz @owillis Every single interview needs to press them on what their solution is if it’s not gun control. If they say mental health than press for where their bills are for increased access and affordability. Right now they are doing absolutely nothing. Absolutely nothing.
@MattGertz Yet they voted NO on mental health funding.
@MattGertz Then why are you doing nothing about mental health other than making sure suffers are heavily armed?
