Relatively basic thing here, but the overall ineptitude of the Red Sox over the last couple of years makes it noteworthy. In past years, the Red Sox didn't have a center fielder who could make this catch, especially with the game on the line - which is really more of an indictment on the Sox of 2022-23. Is it a good catch? Sure. But most legitimate major league CFs make it. The Red Sox finally have one. One other note: Jarren Duran was in CF for part of the game last night. Not sure he makes it, which only amplifies the point.
@TonyMassarotti Also to further discredit Mazz’s point here. Duran is a speedster w/ one of the leagues best jumps on fly balls last season, so essentially nothing Mazz said was correct here
@MattLombo24 @TonyMassarotti Your wrong Speed doesn’t make someone a good Centerfielder Duran is not a Centerfielder on a Championship team No way There’s a reason he’s in Left Field Because he belongs there 👈
@MattLombo24 @TonyMassarotti Most legitimate CFers make that? That seems dubious, too. I’d love to hear what 15-20 other CFers Mazz thinks make that catch
@MattLombo24 @TonyMassarotti Where does he rank on routes to the ball? Last time I was on Baseball savant I wasn't very impressed by his defensive numbers. He does get great jumps though
@MattLombo24 @TonyMassarotti Duran was 4th best in Jumps in the MLB last year and 7th in reaction time. So yeah, he makes that catch or at least gets there.
@MattLombo24 @TonyMassarotti Just becasue he has speed does not mean he makes the catch. "League best jumps" lol just another made up number that is useless. None of that matters if you take wrong angles. But since you want to use "stats' he's 19 runs below average in runs saved...
@MattLombo24 @TonyMassarotti He was a below average fielder last year despite his speed because he gets bad jumps…
