You call yourself an AC/DC fan and you didn't even know Thunderstruck was a Mozart cover?
I fear many of the louder, more public Christian voices have lost the plot this election season. Somewhere along the way, man turned Jesus into a political instrument rather than the example we’re called to follow. Our duty as Christians is not to police God’s rules on His behalf. It’s to love God and love people, in every meaningful sense of the word. Love protects. Love serves. Love seeks justice, extends mercy, tells the truth, and recognizes the dignity of every human being. Kind, patient. Shouldn’t our approach to public policy begin there, too? Not with how much of our religious morality we can impose on others, but with how we can build a society that most faithfully practices love toward them. Jesus didn’t command us to control our neighbors. He commanded us to love them.
@SteveBresnen Scripture describes God beyond human gender, using both fatherly and motherly imagery, while traditionally referred to as Father. Genesis 1:27, Isaiah 66:13
When Christians vote based on the fear of "something" ... they're telling the world fear is their God.
Stickerbush Symphony — David Wise (1995)
I’ve got to agree. Trump has led American Christians to a period of time in Christianity that nobody else could do — but not in the positive way Trump means it. He has done more damage to our Christian witness than anyone in my lifetime.
move over Jesus -- Trump says he'll "lead us to a period of time in Christianity that nobody else can do"
I cannot tell you how uninterested I am in flying cars when people who work 40+ hours a week can't afford rent or groceries.
I don’t want flying cars or folding iPhones or data centers. I want an end to mass shootings, healthcare for all, free and fair elections, a government free from Christian nationalism, and our planet and people to be cared for.
This answer was so fucking good: Talarico: “My decision to stay home for a week sent my opponent and his conspiracy theorists spiraling. I opened up social media and learned I had apparently dropped out of the race, had flown to a mental hospital in Ohio, that I had DIED. False claims got millions of views online - and this is an example of what I call the ‘rage economy.’ Billionaires who own these platforms get rich, we all get angry, and nobody’s life gets any better. Conspiracy theories don’t put food on the table, put gas in the tank, or improve our communities. I’m going to stay focused on the very real problems facing Texans.”
It's not government's job to promote my faith or yours. Its job is to protect the freedom that lets both of us live what we believe. See First Amendment of The U.S. Constitution.
A Christianity that always defends itself but never defends the oppressed is a religion without a relationship with Jesus.
Nothing will ever convince me that someone else’s life is somehow worth less because they aren’t an American citizen, or isn’t a Christian, or has different color skin, or is a different gender, or lives differently than I do.
Aquatic Ambiance - Donkey Kong Country
Evangelical Christianity in the United States is often characterized by a deep desire to have “Christianity” pervade our culture but not have Christ permeate our being.
Escape From the City (City Escape) - Sonic Adventure 2
The same people warning about "sharia law" are the ones demanding live streamed executions, book bans, baring journalists from the White House, eroding women's rights, rounding up people in our streets, and legislating the Bible in schools, all in the name of "Christianity."
