How many people forgo colonoscopies bc they don’t have anybody to take them home after the procedure? 😪
@MaxJordan_N All too common and always make me incredibly sad -- and generally teaches me something a patient that I did not know.
@MaxJordan_N This speaks to the detrimental health effects of isolation and loneliness in the US. Having people around you who can catch you when you need it most is the difference between finding the polyp early vs getting a more grim diagnosis later on.
@MaxJordan_N I'm with you, this is a worthy cause. So many policy solutions possible that we've failed to address for so long.
@MaxJordan_N That and they can’t afford two days in a row off work/don’t know their work schedule out far enough to be able to guarantee two days off in a row
@MaxJordan_N I think about this a lot, and I also think about how the transplant criteria factors in if you have someone to care for you, and how people get DQed because of this, and also if you can afford the necessary medications to ensure the transplant remains successful :(
@MaxJordan_N I would guess at least 25% of my patients cancel their colonoscopies because of this
@MaxJordan_N I’m glad I got my colonoscopy early (I had reason to, but thankfully normal) cuz my mom accompanied me. When I’m 50, I hope my parents are alive but who knows if they’ll still be able to drive. It’s a huge problem. I probably would just spend a day at hospital inn next time lol
