Well worth reading this considered response to #TheLongGoodbye advert. The tragic narrative of someone repeatedly dying will only spread fear, negativity & create more stigma & misunderstanding around life w the disease. It is wrong to make out the person is no longer there.
If only we could hold on to this essential truth…it might help us attend to the stories of “others” without the “othering” that ails us.
How our story telling centres the lives of people who are harder to identify with, who are affected by stigma and discrimination, will be one of the core challenges our sector has to work through in these coming years.
Looks like @alzheimerssoc doubling down on their ad saying ‘it’s a tough watch’ but that they have to ‘depict the harsh realities’. So they actually do believe the harsh reality is that people with a diagnosis of dementia are dead.

Important message from @MeaningfulCareM , much like when people yearn for 'home', it's often not in a physical sense but in an emotional sense. People living with dementia may call for their mother when they are scared, looking for that sense of comfort, safety & reassurance.

Yes, Yes, Yes. By seeing beyond the grey hair and being curious, we can discover the rich diversity of back stories. My own grandmother (a Scot 😉) was one of the first women commercial aviators in the world, for example.
Thinking on #InternationalWomensDay of the women living in care homes. The women who worked hard (paid or unpaid), played hard, cried lots, laughed lots. Women who nurtured their family. Women who travelled and who stayed put. Women who need to be seen more, valued more ♥️
@MeaningfulCareM Cheating as it's not really three individual books 🤣...but maybe it's a sad reflection that I'd be looking for escapism 🤔, or is it more about meeting me and my curiousity and sense of space?
