Former minister Dr. May Chidiac, speaking in an interview with The Beiruter, commented on the explosives seized in Dahr al-Baidar. She stressed that the heart of the matter is the existence of weapons outside the authority of the state, not the quantity of explosives or where they were headed. Whether the explosives were intended for Israel or for any other party, she said, the principle remains the same: “no weapons outside the authority of the state.” She also criticized attempts to steer the debate toward alternative explanations, recalling similar incidents in Lebanon in the past whose circumstances were never resolved. She stressed that C4 is particularly alarming given recent history, as several figures were targeted, including herself and MP Marwan Hamadeh. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam acknowledged that the seized items include a material used in previous assassinations. She cited the case of former minister Michel Samaha, who was convicted of transporting explosives from Syria to carry out attacks, and said: “We were all targeted with the same type of material.” Her fear is that Lebanon could return to an era in which disputes are settled through violence. Salam pledged “no leniency and no turning a blind eye, but truth and accountability,” according to Information Minister Paul Morcos, while Justice Minister Adel Nassar affirmed that the investigation will continue to the end. Dr. Chidiac welcomed these positions but demanded action: arresting those involved, confiscating the explosives, pursuing the investigation, and prosecuting everyone who took part in transporting or organizing the shipment. In her view, the real test is applying the state’s decisions to everyone without distinction, through its institutions, and not through political dialogue alone, since stability cannot coexist with parallel security structures: “The state proves itself through deeds, not statements.” thebeiruter.com/article/has-th…

@KhalafAlHabtoor

In an interview with former minister Dr. May Chidiac on Al Mashhad on the eve of Wednesday, April 8, 2026: Lebanon does not want this war; rather, Hezbollah is the one that pushed toward it. The group declared its involvement from the outset, particularly following the targeting and killing of Khomeini. Today, as Lebanon becomes a victim of the renewed military operations by Israel, we see that Iran is limiting itself to statements, affirming its support for Lebanon and even threatening to suspend the ceasefire agreement if the bombardment continues, as some of its officials have declared.

In an interview with former minister Dr. May Chidiac on Al Mashhad TV on Wednesday evening: At 6:00 a.m., Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the ceasefire does not include Lebanon. This means that Lebanon is excluded—and is, in fact, the victim: a victim of the killing of Ruhollah Khomeini, a victim of a war it did not want, and a victim of Hezbollah—the Iranian arm and instrument used by Iran—without having any real decision-making power. Notably, the group did not act when Hassan Nasrallah was killed; it only moved after Khomeini’s death. This morning, in what many described as a strange scene, a statement by one of Hezbollah’s officials declared: “We are on the verge of a historic victory.” But what victory are they talking about? It appears they are once again projecting an illusion of triumph to their own base. Meanwhile, residents of southern Lebanon headed toward their villages this morning carrying flags, believing—like before—that they would be able to return. However, Israel prevented them from doing so. Later in the evening, Israel announced that it had effectively severed access between Lebanon and the area of Blataniya through its military operations. What Lebanon has reached is a truly dire and tragic situation.

In an interview with former minister Dr. May Chidiac on Al Mashhad TV on Wednesday evening, April 8, 2026: Domestically, Hezbollah has been taking shelter within residential areas. The southern suburbs of Beirut, once considered its stronghold, where it heavily fortified positions by digging tunnels and exploiting the area in various ways, have proven no longer to be a safe haven. As a result, it is now seen embedding itself among civilians, within the broader population. Meanwhile, Israel is striking homes and buildings, with little distinction as to who resides in them, while stating that its targets are Hezbollah leaders, operatives, and officials. It has explicitly declared that anyone affiliated with Hezbollah is considered a target.

In an interview with former minister Dr. May Chidiac on Al Mashhad TV on Wednesday evening, April 8, 2026: Even the war they waged was not in defense of Lebanon. And here, it is worth asking: have we heard, in any of Iran’s demands, mention of Jerusalem or the liberation of Palestine? This cause, which has long been used as a pretext for expansion in the region—not only into Lebanon, but also into the four Arab capitals they have often boasted of reaching—in pursuit of what they call the “Islamic resistance” project and the “Shia Crescent,” as described by Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein. In other words, it has become clear that what matters to the Iranians is neither Lebanon nor Palestine, but rather the export of the Islamic Revolution that began with the rise to power of Khomeini in Iran.

Don't... The Lebanese government is reportedly considering establishing a “security zone” near the Port of Beirut to "settle" refugees fleeing southern Lebanon due "to ongoing Israeli operations against Hezbollah." This must not happen. Any form of forced demographic reconfiguration in Lebanon risks triggering an irreversible escalation into urban conflict. The area reportedly under consideration—known as the Medawar zone, located between the Port of Beirut and Dora—holds strategic and symbolic significance. It represents the primary maritime access point to East Beirut and lies within a predominantly Christian sector of the capital. This alone makes the proposal highly sensitive. First, the "resettled" refugees would be targeted by Hezbollah infiltration which would draw Israeli strikes on the capital as it happened in the south and Dahiye suburb already. Moreover, such a plan could lead, initially on a temporary basis and later more permanently, to the settlement of populations from the south, where Hezbollah maintains significant influence. This raises serious concerns about the potential for the group to expand its presence into East Beirut, altering the local delicate balance and gaining access to a critical stretch of the capital’s waterfront. Given the history of tensions, violence, and political assassinations associated with Hezbollah, it is highly likely that residents of East Beirut would strongly oppose such a development. Resistance could escalate into confrontation, raising the specter of renewed urban warfare, the weakening or paralysis of the Lebanese Armed Forces, and a broader collapse of central state authority. Instead, the government should consider directing displaced populations toward less volatile areas, such as the northern Bekaa region between Baalbek and Hermel, where relocation would pose fewer risks of sectarian friction. Any policy that reshapes the demographic or security dynamics of Beirut—particularly East Beirut—would be deeply destabilizing, potentially violating principles of international law and risking a return to civil conflict. Given the current limitations of the Lebanese state, including its inability to fully contain Hezbollah or secure its borders against Jihadi threats, the local populations in East Beirut and Mount Lebanon could call on the United States either to intervene or empower the neighborhoods to prevent strategic areas like Beirut’s waterfront from falling under the control of militant groups.
