Ole Miss fans didn’t rush the field when they beat LSU. Because they expected to win. That says a lot about where the program is in Oxford. Not storming the field when you win a huge game says more about your program than storming the field does.

People in Mississippi are some of the warmest, friendliest, and most gracious folks that you could ever hope to meet. I thought that the Lebanese were the world champions of hospitality. Let me tell you something, the Mississippians are trying to dethrone the Lebanese!

PUNISHED WITH POVERTY - The UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI AFTER THE CIVIL WAR The State of Mississippi survived the War in horrible shape. At least 50 towns had been burned, and I know there are more that I have not found. That number includes 14 burned County Courthouses. Over 200 fine farms had been burned, and that is probably a low number. Farm animals were gone, eaten or just killed by invading yankees. Farm implements had been broken up. Railroads, engines, and cars, and bridges in the Northern two thirds of the State were largely gone. Many unburned city and County houses had been stripped of everything. If I wrote a book on all this loss, I could not fully explain to you how devastating it all was. It is simply beyond our understanding. The worst cost of the War was of course the human cost. Twenty percent of all military age Mississippians died in the War. Over 30 percent of all the Mississippians who went to War, were wounded, from one, to SIX times. This number includes lost legs, arms, hands, fingers, ears, eyes, jaws, hearing, and everything else attached to a male human being. Some lost their health through wounds or diseases, only to come home to die. Nearly all were affected for the rest of their lives. Northern history Professor James McPherson says 50,000 civilians, mostly Southerners, died in the War. Mississippi being a battleground State, would have lost a larger than average percentage of civilians. Some Confederate Veterans came home to mental illness and depression. Some came home to commit suicide. Some civilians lost all their money and all their property plus all or most of their young male kinfolk. There are stories of some of those people simply locking themselves in their rooms or homes, and never coming out. Their families cared for them as best they could. What happened at the University of Mississippi after the War? The University DID reopen. It was NOT burned like Alabama was. The University of Mississippi was ordered to be burned, but the two young yankee Captains sent to do the job, "finding only literary material, and scientific apparatus, refused to carry out such a vandal order". God Bless 'em! So, the University did reopen in the Fall of 1865. When the University did reopen that Fall, it opened to much reduced numbers, compared to before the War. Only FIVE former students came back, out of 160 eligible undergraduates before the War. Roughly 25 percent of the pre War students had died in the War, and most of the rest were destitute. Mississippi had gone from the highest per capita income before the war, to the lowest after the War. Many of the students who did come to the University after the War, were Veterans. Many wore parts of their old uniforms. Those were the only clothes they had. L. Q. C. Lamar, and other UM Professors, and some Trustees made loans to the Vets, or they just gave them the $50 for their tuition. The Trustees made a motion to let the Confederate Vets attend the University for free, but that did not pass the Legislature. The State was broke. Early on in that first semester, many of the students could not afford the meal plan in the University cafeteria. So, the boys bought food in Oxford, and they cooked it in the fireplaces in their rooms. So many of them were vets, and they had just cooked most of their own meals outdoors for four years. An inside fireplace was a luxury. The faculty quickly figured this out, and they threw open the empty dorm rooms to serve as kitchens. The State was so broke, that by 1874, the Law school was suspended and was only resumed in 1877. The University janitor was named Librarian. The boys were required to keep the dorms clean, and the janitor was only responsible for the books, and to keep the classrooms clean. By 1871, the University declared the $50 tuition would be abolished. But the students still had meals to pay for, books and pens and paper, fuel for their rooms, washing, and travel, and clothes. The free tuition lasted until at least 1905. Women were admitted to the University in the Fall of 1882. I am sure that is partly because the University desperately needed students. With women admitted, it still took until 1895 to reach the pre War number of students, of 225. Twenty years after the war, with so many alumni dead, and with 20 percent of military age men dead from the War, their children were never produced to come to the University. About 20 percent of that generation's women, never got married, or had children. The first building built after the War was a Library building, in 1889. By that year they still had plenty of dorm and classroom space. The only thing growing at the University was knowledge. They needed more room for BOOKS, not for student space. Have I depressed you yet? Do your four years of College look a little easier now? Go count your many blessing tonight. All of this is why I often write, God Bless the post War students, Professors, and Trustees for restarting the University after the War. Meanwhile Mississippi, once ranked 47th in 4th grade reading… is now 9th. Adjust for demographics? NUMBER ONE in the nation in 4th grade reading and math. NUMBER ONE in 8th grade math. A Black child in Mississippi is 2.5X more likely to be proficient in reading by 4th grade than a child in California. They spend about $11,000 LESS per student than Massachusetts and they’re beating them. How? Science of reading. 3rd grade retention if you can’t read. Charters in failing districts. School choice for special needs. RAISED standards, not lowered them. Governor Tate Reeves: conservative reforms + accountability work for EVERY kid. Blue states keep dumbing it down. Mississippi raised the bar, and the kids met it. This is the model. Copy it.

2008 was an interesting year for vaccines. That's the year the formerly-sealed case of Hannah Poling leaked to the public. (I later reported on the case for CBS News. I'll link to that in this thread.) In Hannahs' case, the govt. (which represents vaccine makers in court, believe it or not) conceded that Hannah's vaccines caused her autism. Mind you, the govt. and head of CDC were denying this in public. We didn't know it at the time, but the govt's own top expert witness in vaccine-autism cases, pediatric neurologist Dr. Andrew Zimmerman, had shocked the govt. by telling them (DOJ lawyers) that vaccines can cause autism, after all. But instead of helping kids and revealing the truth, the DOJ fired Dr. Zimmermand as an expert witness and misrepresented his opinion in court thereafter. Anyhow, the govt. secretly paid the Poling family a multi million dollar settlement, but then had the case sealed so no other parents would find out. Public health officials continued to tell other parents they were imagining things. Meantime, many experts said that separating multi vaccines into individual doses is inherently safer. Some parents were opting to get their kids Measles and Mumps vaccines separately, for example, rather than giving them the combo Measles, Mumps, Rubella shot. How did the maker of MMR, Merck respond? Merck stopped making the individual shots in the U.S. All around 2008.

JOE ROGAN: “The guy who wrote the study that’s often quoted about vaccines not causing autism just got arrested for fraud.” “People around Fauci… that don’t have a pardon from Biden are getting arrested now.” Rogan is talking about Poul Thorsen, the Danish epidemiologist behind Madsen et al., published in NEJM on November 7, 2002. It covered 537,303 children and claimed “strong evidence against the hypothesis that MMR vaccination causes autism.” Thorsen just pleaded guilty to wire fraud for stealing more than $1,000,000 in CDC grant money. In contradiction to Thorsen’s autism claim, Dr. Peter McCullough’s team at the McCullough Foundation reviewed 136 vaccine studies for Determinants of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Twenty-nine came back neutral, and 107 inferred a possible link. The study’s conclusion: “Combination and early-timed routine childhood vaccination constitutes the most significant modifiable risk factor for ASD…”

Thanks to improved sanitation and nutrition, measles deaths plummeted to 0.24 per 100,000 3 years before the measles vaccine became available.

So, hormones are so dangerous they can make you crazy enough to kill your kids, but totally fine to give to anyone who wants to transition, including kids?

Even if the current autism numbers are not 1 in 30 (there’s been lots of fraud in obtaining diagnoses to grab benefits), the numbers are massive. Everyone knows someone with a special needs child. This was extremely rare when I grew up. Del Bigtree is doing heroic work.

If you had trusted the settled science of the day, here is how it would have gone. 1890s: you dose the baby with Bayer's new cough syrup, the non-addictive alternative to morphine, marketed for children. It was heroin. They named it after the German for heroic. 1900s: you rub calomel teething powder on your infant's gums. It is a mercury compound, and it leaves a generation with pink disease. Swollen, peeling hands and feet, screaming for months, and some of them died. 1910s: you cook in Crisco, launched by a soap and candle company, because cottonseed oil is modern and lard is what your mother used. The process that made it solid produced trans fat, banned outright a century later. 1920s: you drink Radithor, certified radioactive water, on prescription. Eben Byers took fourteen hundred bottles for his vitality. His jaw was removed in pieces and he was buried in a lead coffin. 1930s: a chemist dissolves a new sulfa drug in diethylene glycol, which is antifreeze. It kills 107 people, mostly children, and only then does America give the FDA power to demand safety testing. 1940s: your doctor lights a Camel in the surgery. More doctors smoke them than any other brand, and the advert runs in the Journal of the American Medical Association, which sold him the page. 1950s: DDT is sprayed over your kitchen, your garden and your children at school. The man who found its insecticidal properties has already been given a Nobel Prize. 1960s: your wife takes thalidomide for morning sickness because it is remarkably safe. More than ten thousand children are born with missing and shortened limbs. 1970s: the country puts down the butter and picks up the margarine, on the instruction of the American Heart Association. The fat everybody switched to was banned in 2015 as unsafe at any level. 1980s: the fat comes out of everything and sugar goes back in to make it edible. Obesity begins a climb it has never come off. 1990s: your father is prescribed OxyContin, because fewer than one per cent get addicted. The company later pleads guilty to criminal misbranding, and the overdose count runs into hundreds of thousands. 2000s: you take Vioxx for your knee. It is pulled in 2004, and the FDA's own safety officer estimates tens of thousands of excess heart attacks. Not one of those was fringe. Every one had a professional body, a literature and a man in a white coat standing behind it. Nobody who followed that advice was stupid. They were obedient, to the most qualified people available. Settled is a word about money. It means the questions stopped being funded, so they stopped being asked. So which of today's instructions will your grandchildren read out in disbelief. The oil washed in hexane and built into every cell you own. The statin that blocks the pathway making your hormones, to prevent one heart attack per hundred people. The injection where a third of the loss is muscle. The infant formula built out of vegetable oil. All settled. None of it funded to be otherwise.
