The word “alignment” gets thrown around like magic dust. But alignment isn’t agreement—it’s commitment. You don’t need everyone nodding; you need everyone rowing once the decision is made. Too many confuse endless consensus with alignment and wonder why nothing moves.

I keep seeing boards confuse “governance” with “advice.” They think their job is to weigh in on operations like consultants. It isn’t. Their real work is protecting the mission and holding leadership accountable when no one else will. Advice is optional. Accountability is not.

Everyone talks about capacity like it’s a fixed bucket. It’s not. Half the time, teams already have the bandwidth. They’re just bleeding it out on meetings, noise, or sacred-cow projects no one has the guts to kill. Freeing that energy takes sharper subtraction, not another hire.

Momentum isn’t built by adding more bodies or bigger budgets. It comes when ownership, capacity, and focus line up in the same direction. Miss one of those and you’re just grinding gears. Leaders love to celebrate activity, but activity without momentum is just motion sickness.

Yes, and I’ve argued something similar on my blog at MehtaCognition.substack.com. Knowledge and intelligence are now commodities. Wisdom is the human irreplaceable. But… how will we generate new and great ideas if knowledge and intelligence are outsourced? Where do we need friction?

Everyone wants alignment, but what they usually mean is agreement. Alignment is when people row in the same direction even if they don’t love every stroke. Agreement is fragile. Alignment is durable because it’s anchored in mission, not moods. Which one are you actually building?

Leaders love to say they want candor, but what many really want is candor that doesn’t sting. The problem is, painless candor is just word salad. The only feedback that shifts culture is the kind that makes someone uncomfortable enough to move. Everything else is just décor.

Leaders confuse movement with momentum. They fill calendars, launch committees, etc—plenty of motion but no real forward pull. Momentum only shows up when people feel the direction is sharp, consistent, and worth betting on. Otherwise it’s just noise dressed up as progress.

Whoa!! Tried it on myself. Amazing! Can’t wait to use this and leverage it when integrated with other actions, like prep me for my meeting with … and so on. I also wonder if there’s a way to extend - who all should this person connect with? Who would they vibe with? Etc.
