Authors using AI art on your covers, you're cutting off your own leg. I'm not even talking about the accusations of "thief" that you're going to get. Let's set that aside. I'm talking about the price you're paying in reputation and marketability to save maybe $1000. (1/10)
@OConnorBooks One small thing to add - workers at bookstores despise books with AI generated covers. I know several people who work at bookstores. You know what they do to books with AI covers? 1) They don't recommend them to customers 2) They organize shelves to put your book out of sight
@MeirnonArt hadn't thought of that, but it's a great point!
@MeirnonArt @OConnorBooks great to know that bookstore workers are literally judging books by their covers
@MeirnonArt @OConnorBooks The day will come when no one can tell the difference anymore though
@MeirnonArt @OConnorBooks Another good reason to avoid bookstores. I won't pay a premium so a minwage drone can editorialize.
@MeirnonArt @OConnorBooks Are there many bookstores left? In my country they mostly sell other things now(sadly) so I don’t think that’s a loss for most people.
@MeirnonArt @OConnorBooks Another thing to take into consideration is that genAI images or text cannot be copyrighted, so if you use something like that for a cover everyone can take it without any legal issues and stick it on whatever they want. You're putting out a product that's cheap and lazy.
@MeirnonArt @OConnorBooks How long do you think they will until AI stuff is the norm?
@MeirnonArt @OConnorBooks Done that myself when working 8n a bookshop!
