Happy World Intellectual Property Day! As your IP Law Expert, I'm here to answer all your IP questions. Let's share ideas on boosting IP awareness in Uganda. Despite robust laws, institutions, and expertise, many still haven't protected their IP. Let's change that! @URSBHQ #IPDay
Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, like inventions, literary and artistic works, designs, and symbols used in commerce. It's legally protected, allowing creators to earn recognition or financial benefits from their work.Uganda has extremely good IP laws.
Industrial Property includes patents , utility models , technovations ,industrial designs , trademarks /service marks , geographical indications, traditional knowledge(TK) . Uganda has laws to protect these categories & has further formulated a law on TK to be passed soon.
Copyright and neighboring rights /Related Rights protects the rights of creators over their literary , artistic & scientific works, eg books, music, paintings, sculptures. It also covers rights related to movies, software, and databases.Uganda has a good law on Copyright.
